An incorporated city on the Salt Lake Route and the Tooele Valley Ry in the eastern part of Tooele county of which it is the county seat, 33 miles southwest of Salt Lake City. The city is lighted by electricity and has a good system of water works. It has a large smelter, 2 banks, flour mill, 2 theatres, 3 hotels, weekly and semi-weekly newspapers - The Transcript and The Bulletin.
