At a Vestry held for the parish of St. Peter's on Tuesday, the 30th day of July, 1722.


Ordered that Mr. Tho. Butts be Church warden for the year ensuing in the Room of Mr. Wm. Waddill.


Mr. Wm. Macon and Mr. Walter Clopton having first taken the oaths according to Law were appointed Vestrymen of the s'd parish, having taken the oaths in that Case appointed.

Whereas, by an act of Assembly intituled an act for ye more Effectual Emproving the Staple of Tobo. & for ye Better Dis- covery of frauds therein which said Act directs the Vestry of every parish in this Dominion before ye last day of June yearly to lay their respective parishes into precincts and to appoint Two persons in each precinct to Examine & Enquire of ye names & members of all persons alowed to tend Tobacco & ye crops of ye severall planters within their precincts & ye number of plants

In Obedience to the said Act this Vestry hath proceeded this day to lay out this parish into precincts & to appoint Two per- sons in each precinct to view & number according to the direc- tions of the Said Act of Assembly, whose names & ye precincts are as followeth :


Mr. Charles Massie & Mr. Walter Clopton are appointed to view & number Tob'co plants according to law: from ye long bridge upon Chickehominy Swamp along ye main Road by Mr. Adams' to ye Burnt mill & so Down black creek to the mouth thereof & to ye extent of ye parish upward.


Mr. Robt. Clopton & Mr. David Pettison are appointed to View & Number Tobo. plants as afores'd from Mr. Wm. Thomas's Store along ye main road by Coll. Scott & so to Alex'r pattison's the full Bredth of the parish to Black Creek.


Mr. Wm. Waddill & Mr. John Otey are appointed to View & Number as afore'sd from Mr. Thomas's Store along ye main road by Coll. Scott's & so to Alex'r Pattison's & so to ye Ex- tent of the parish Downwards. Signed by Henry Collings, Min'r, and Recorded by Robt. Walton, Clerk of Vestry. ..

W'ch said sum of 40 lbs. of Tobo. the Church wardens is Im- powered to receive from Every Tythable person in the parish & to pay it to those for whom it is Levyed, provided ye Church wardens give Bond & Security as usual.


Ordered that Rich'd Crump & Edw'd Baily & their Tithables do work upon ye high roads w'th Wm. Crump Survey. Or- dered that ye Church wardens do Contribute ye goods of Thos. Ashcroft for ye use of this parish before there be any more Tobo. Levyed for him or before they agree w'th any person for ye maintainance of him at ye Charge of this parish.
