Wee the Vestry of St. Peter's Parish having this Day meet and do find that ye Parish Debts do amount to Fifty six thousand nine hundred, fifty & Three pounds of Tobacco, which ye Sum of 56953 L of Tob'co being Divided Between 587, The Number of Tithables this year Amount to Ninety Seven pounds of Tob'co p Tythables, Besides a fraction of 14 L of Tob'o Due to ye Collector next year. The which Sum of 97 lbs. of Tobo. Mr. Tho. Butts, Church warden, is Hereby Impowered to Collect from every Tithable Person in St. Peter's Parish, And pay it to those Persons according to there Severall Claims, And in case of non-payment, to make distress according to Law.


Selvanus Walker appeared at this Vestry and Agreed w'th the s'd Vestry to Keep Rich'd Coollam one whole year for seven Hundred pounds of Tobacco.

The Parish Levy being proportioned, wee find ye Parish Debts to amount to 55584 lb. of Tobo., which being divided by 603 ye number of Tithables this year amounts to 92 lbs. of Tobo. p Tithable, besides a fraction of 108 1b. of Tobo. to pay ye Chu. Wardens next year. And ye Church wardens are ordered to Col- lect ye s'd sum of 92 lb. of Tobo. from each Tithable in St. Pe- ter's p'sh, And if in Case of non payment to make Distress. And ye Chu. Wardens are to enter into Bond with ye S'd vestry ac- cording to Law.


Whereas, Mr. Tho. Jackson Did agree with this Vestry to Build a Brick house on ye Gleeb Land as p a former order of Vestry. The S'd vestry having this Day met at ye Gleeb house, And find ye s'd Gleeb house to be fr'nished according to Agree- ment. And having this Day Take Possession of ye s'd House and Delivered ye Key to Mr. Wm. Brodie, Min'r, And have ordered That Mr. Tho. Jackson's Bond be Delivered to him, so that he may be Discharged from ye afores'd Agreement.


At ye motion of Mr. Charles Fleming, perveyor of ye high- way to this Vestry, It is ordered that ye Tithables of Esq'r Lewis at Will's Quarter, Jno. Turner, Thomas Bassett and Wm. Greens Tithables shall be added to his Precincts to assist ye said Charles Fleming in Clearing ye s'd Road and making Bridges when thereunto Required.


Whereas, Mr. Thomas Jackson assumed to this Vestry That he would, with James Henderson, Enter into Bond with ye Church Wardens to Keep ve Parish Endemnified and Clear from all manner of Charge which may accrue by Reason of James Hen- derson, Jun'r, Coming into St. Peter's Parish, & from this time forever.

from the Church Wardens of 131 pounds of Tobo. to be ac- counted for next year. The which sum of 43 pounds of Tobo. the Church Wardens are hereby Impowered to Receive from Every Tithable, And pay it to those Persons, which it is Levyed for: Provided the Church Wardens Enter into Bond with the Vestry as usuall.


Ordered that Walter Clopton Deliver unto Mr. Rich'd Allin and Mr. William Clopton, Church wardens, The Servant man's mare, which come out of Esex County, And that the Said Church wardens Detain ye s'd Mare untill Such time as ye owners of her make Satisfaction unto ye Parish for the Sum of Two hundred and Seventy five pounds of Tobacco, Which was allowed ye S'd Walter Clopton by the Vestry for Burying and other Charges of Thomas Burdenwin, or Else to pay Cash for the S'd 275 pounds of Tobo. at 20 Shillings p Hundred.


Ordered That the Clark Draw out an Order and Publish it Three Several Sundays in the Church, To Give Notice to all Persons which Live in St. Peter's Parish, That they shall not entertain any person that is a Jobber or a Traviler in his or her house above Eight and fourty hours without giving notice thereof, unto the Church Wardens upon pain of Inflicting Such Penalties as the Law injoyns against Such Persons, &c., as shall Entertain any such.


Whereas, Mr. Eben. Adams has Applyed himself to this Ves- try, &c., that his Gang which is allowed him in his precinct is too small, that they are not able to clear the Roads and Repair the Bridges in his precincts. It is ordered that Thomas Massie and William Massie, Tithables, shall be added to his former Gang.


Ordered that ye Widow Amos is to go along with Mr. Thomas Massie and he to provide some person to take Care of her for the Ensuing year, and to allow them 300 pounds of Tobacco ye year.


Ordered that Madam Littlepage's Tithables at Touze hill be added to Stephen Mitchell's Precinct, to Clear the Roads and Repair the Bridges when thereunto Called by the S'd Stephen Mitchell, Serveyer.


Whereas, Capt. John Scott has made an offer To take all the Poor People of this Parish: It is ordered That he shall Receive all the poor people which shall be sent him by the Church War- dens, And to provide for them all such Necessaries as Shall be

Ordered that the Clerk give Notice that there will be A Vestry held at this Church on the 18th Day of November next, And that there is a Brick Wall to be made Round the said Brick Church. Therefore all Persons that are minded to undertake the said work are Desired to appear at the s'd Vestry.

Mr. Wm. Brodie, Min'r; Mr. , Richard Allin, Mr. William Clopton, Chu. Wardens; Coll. Joseph Foster, Mr. George Poin- dexter, Mr. John Parke, Mr. William Waddill, Mr. Tho. Massie, Mr. Eben'r Adams.


Elisabeth Wicker hath this Day Agreed with this Vestry to keep George Baisy to the 18th Day of November next for four hundred and fifty pounds of Tobacco.


James Smith have this Day Agreed with this Vestry to Keep Edward Bedford and Elisabeth Johnson for the ensuing year, And to be paid for Each of them six hundred pounds of Sweet Scented Tobacco, and if in case of Mortality to be paid in Pro- portion.


Jarvis Austin, At his Motion to this Vestry, is appointed Sex- ton of this Parish instead of John Helton, and to be Paid five hundred Pounds of Tobacco p'r Annum for all Officers belong- ing to the Church. And Likewise he is to be allowed half a Crown for Digging of a Grave, &c., And John Helton is ordered to Deliver him the Key of the Church. Capt. John Foster added.


Whereas There is a Brick wall to be Built about the Brick Church, whose Dimentions are as followeth, Viz .: One hundred feet square, To be fourteen Inches thick, four feet & a half above Ground, And four feet and half high in the Lowest Place, all Levell, And the Bricks Laid upon a Good foundation with a handsom Coopin Brick upon the Top And Genteely Rompt at each side of the Gates. The Bricks to be according to the Statute

something Less than Nine Inches in Length, two Wide Handsom Gates made after the form of Iron Gates w'th Handsom Square Peares (or Posts) for the Gates, with a hollow Spire, a Top and Good Hinges for the two Gates, with Hasps, Bolts and Locks as Good as can be got and in fashion, and to allow 16 bushels of Lime to a Thousand Bricks. The s'd wall to be in all Respects as well Done as the Capitol wall in Williamsburgh. And the Church to be repaired with Shingles wherever there is any want- ing, And to Lay two Course of Shingles on each side to enclose the Rough, And to make a pair of New Doors and Door Cases at the West End of the Church.


James Skilton appeared at this Vestry and Agreed with the s'd Vestry to Build the within mentioned Brick wall according to the within Dementions. And to Do the other work mentioned in Repairing the Church, &c., for which Brick woll & other work The Vestry Doe agree to pay unto ye s'd James Skelton at the next fall Twenty Six Thousand pounds of Sweet Scented To- bacco, and Cask, Provided the s'd James Skilton Enter into Bond with Security with the Church warden for the true Performance of the above agreement & that the S'd Brick Wall and other work may be finished by the Last day of August next.


Whereas, Madam Francis Littlepage hath out of her Gen- erous Inclination offered to this Parish a Bell, Wee the s'd Ves- try, in behalf of ye Parish Doe Desire the Reverend Mr. William Brodie to Return her Thanks for her kind and Generous offer.
