Gentlemen, The Govourner having recommended ye Rev'd Mr. Ino. Lang to your parish now vacant by the death of Mr. Col- lings, I thought it my duty to acquaint you that I have seen his Deacons. & presbyters orders & License from my Lord Bishop of London together with a Certificate of his Taking ye oaths to ye Government. He comes likewise mighty well recommended & as far as I can Judge by hearing him preach, & a good deal of Conversation with him, I do not at all doubt that he will prove a very worthy Clergyman & give good Satisfaction both as to his Life & Doctrine, which is ye hearty prayer of Your Most Humble Servant, JAMES BLAIR.

VESTRY BOOK OF ST. PETER'S PARISH.
The Parish Levy being this day proportioned, we find it amounts to ye Sum of 24 lbs. of Tob'co p poll on 971 tithables, besides a fraction of 109 1 of Tob'co to be paid to ye parish next year, Which said Sum of 24 1 of Tob'co Capt. Thos. Massie is appointed & impowered to Collect from Every Tithable person in this parish, And to pay it to those persons for whom it is levyed, provided the said Capt. Thos. Massie Enter into bond with the Vestry as ye Law directs.
Ordered that Eliz. Taylor be allowed 756 1 of Tob'co for keep- ing of Mary Hazzard this Ensuing year.

Pursuant to an Act of Assembly Instituled an act for the more & better improving the Staple of Tob'co, this Vestry hath pro- ceeded this day to lay out the parish into precincts, & to Ap- point two persons in each precinct whose names & the bounds of the precincts are as followeth :
Mr. Charles Massie & Mr. Walter Clopton are Nominated & appointed to View & number the Tob'co plants According to ye Directions of ye Act of Assembly from the Long bridge upon Chickahominy Swamp Along the main Road which leadeth by Mr. Adams's plantation to Thomas Pinchback's mill, thence to the mouth of black Creek, And so to the extent of the parish up- wards.
Mr. David Patteson & Mr. Robert Clopton are nominated & appointed to View & number Tob'co plants according to the Di- rections of ye Act of Assembly from Mr. Thomas's former Store along the Main Road, Which Leadeth by Coll. Scott's to Martha Patteson's the full bredth of ye parish to black Creek, the former bounds.
Mr. Wm. Waddill & Mr. John Otey are Nominated & ap- pointed to View & number Tob'co According to the Directions

of the Act of Assembly from Mr. Thomas' former Store along the main road which leadeth by Colo. Scott's to Martha Patte- son's, so to the Extent of ye s'd Parish, in New Kent County, Downwards.
Capt. Wm. Marston and Mr. John Netherland are Nominated and appointed to View & number Tob'co plants According to the Direction of the Act of Assembly, All that part of this parish which lies in James City County.
Ordered that Capt. Thomas Massie be Continued Ch. War- den this present year, And Mr. Jno. Netherland is Chosen Church Warden in the room of Mr. Wm. Browne.
Capt. Charles Lewis voluntarily resigning the office of a Ves- ti yman by his Letter to ye Vestry, Mr. David Patteson is Chosen & Elected a Vestryman in his room, And it is ordered that the Clerk give him Notice to appear at the Next Vestry in order to take the Oaths According to law.
Mr. John Netherland hath this day taken the Oath of a Church warden. Mr. John Netherland hath agreed with this Vestry to Digg, make the bricks & brick a well at ye Glebe and to Com- pleat the same on or before the last day of December next for the Sum of three Thousand pounds of Tob'co one half to be Le- vyed at ye Laying of the next Levy and the other half the year following. For the performance of which he hath given Bond & Security to the Vestry.
