STREET NUMBERS-The ordinance providing for the numbering of streets and avenues of Oak- land apportions fifty numbers to each block throughout the city. The numbers on the streets extending from Lake Merritt to the bay shore commence at East Front, increasing west to the bay. On streets and avenues running north and south the numbers commence at South Front, increasing toward the northern limits of the city. In East Oakland the numbers com- mence at Lake Merritt on streets running east and west, increasing toward the eastern limits of the city; and on the avenues and streets running north and south the numbers commence at the water line and increase toward the north. The system also provides that the numbers on parallel streets shall be identical throughout the city.
