" SHALER'S FAMILY SCALE is a new and desirable article for use in families, and is worthy the especial attention of every housekeeper. It is the most complete thing of the kind we ever saw, and should be in every house in the nation. It has a face like a clock, and is so simple that a child can use it."

This is what the New York Independent and other papers of like standing say of SHALER'S FAMILY SCALE. We invite the attention of all interested to call upon, or address, JOHN W. NASH & CO., 18 HOWARD STREET, New Haven, Conn.

INCOME LIST FOR 1867.

It is understood, of course, that the list by no means indicates the income of those whose names appear or do not appear in it, and is, therefore, a very unsafe guide in attempting to estimate any one's wealth. A deduction of $1,000 is made in the first place. After that comes a deduction for State, National and local taxes, losses sustained by fire, shipwreck and other casualties, labor, interest on investments taxed directly, such as government securities, railroad stock and bonds, insurance and bank investments, rents of home- stead, salaries derived from the United States, &c. Some of our wealthiest citizens do not appear in the list, or else appear as tax payers on a small amount, because they have already paid, in another form, all their obligations to the general government.

-[ Courier, June 10.
