INSTRUCTIONS TO KEY HOLDERS.

1. On the breaking out of a fire, notice should be immediately communicated to the nearest Alarm Box, Keys of which are always in the hands of the Police, and responsible persons in the vicinity of the Boxes.

2. Key holders, upon the discovery or posi- tive information of a fire, will unlock the box, pull down the slide or hook once, and let go. This gives the desired alarm all over the city, re- peating itself five times.

3. All persons giving fire alarms are request- ed to remain by the box a moment, and if no clicking is heard in the box, pull again ; if you still hear no clicking, go to the next nearest box and give the alarm from that.

4. Never signal for a fire seen at a distance Never touch the hook except to give an alarm of

fire. Be sure the box is locked before leaving it. Give an alarm for no canse other than an actual fire. Do not give an alarm for a chimney.

5. Owners and occupants of buildings are requested to inform themselves of the location of the Signal Boxes near their property, also, the places where the keys are kept. Be sure the alarm is properly given. One single stroke of the Alarm Bell and Engine House Gongs is not given for an alarm of fire.

6. Alarms will be sounded on the Fire Bells

thus : For box 5, five strokes, 1-1-1-1-1, with short intervals, and repeating. For box 32, three strokes, 1 -!- 1, a pause, then two strokes, 1-1, a pause, and repeating. Alarms for other numbers are given in a like manner.

7. Ten successive strokes upon the Alarm Bells will be given as a signal for calling out the whole Fire Department.

CAUTION .- Never pull the hook while the Alarm Bells or the Gong in the Box are striking. J. M FAIRCHILD, Sup't, 124 Union St.

TAXABLE GRAND LIST FOR 1873, ON INDIVIDUAL TAX PAYERS ON $10,000 AND UPWARDS.

[We copy from the JOURNAL AND COURIER, of March 31st, 1874, the following Grand List of New Haven, for 1873. We think the list incomplete and imperfect, but believe it to be of sufficient general interest to publish. It will be understood that the figures below do not in- clude property in the shape of State bonds, government bonds, railroad bonds, and other bonds exempt from taxation.]

A comparison between the grand lists of New Haven and Hartford shows a difference. in favor of New Haven of over ten millions of dollars. The grand list of Hartford for 1872, foots up a total of $45,672,895. New Haven's foot up $56,556,179.
