Drake University -- North" and Twenty- fifth. Drake University was organized in 1881, being the conception of D. R. Lucas,; G. T. Carpenter and others, who saw in
the rapid growth and central location of Des Moines a fit location for a great school. It was named in honor of. F. M. Drake, of Centerville, lowa, its most liberal donor. In type the University is English rather than German, comprehending a circle of ten colleges: Letters and science, Bible, formal, business, musical, oratorical, art, law, medicine and pharmacy. Each col- lege has its own special courses and grants a special certificate of diploma, "Only those students that complete courses based upon general collegiate attainments and a four years' course receive the University diploma and are regarded alumni of the institution. All students of the several' colleges may enjoy the priveleges of muse- ums, libraries reading | rooms, lectures, etc., of the University, and may take classes in general or prosessional work, in any of its schools upon equitable terms. .
