Company G, Ninth Hinois Cavalry Volonteres, Was recruited partly at Valparaiso, Ind., by Henry M. Buteland Robert HI. Hon- derson, and at La Porte. Ind., by Henry A. Huntington. then came to Chicago about the middle of September, 1591, and Henry M. Buel was elected Captain, John F. Wagner First Lieu tenant, and Henry A. Huntington Second Lieutenant.
They mustered into the service October 9, 1861. The artenn- stances of this company were similar to those of Company E. and they expected to go into the "First Western Cavalry," but this feeling of discontent did not lest long; the men soon frater- nized with the Ilinois boys, and during the whole term of their service these two Indiania Companies did their full share of the fighting and upheld the honor of the regiment, and had as much

Sidney O. Roberts enlisted from Da Page, October 12. 1961, and joining Con pany G, was promoted to be Second Lieutenant October 21, 150? and again com missioned First Lientenant, November 25, 1862, remaining with the regimeot until the close of the war, when he resigned, hi resignation being accepted May 1, 1865.

James Henry Rinker enlisted from Tassivong, Ind., November 20, 1561. r. enlisted as a veteran January 1. Ist appointed First Sergeant, and comuns sioned Second Lieutenant of His Company. G. Ninth Blinoi- Casaby, June 6 1595.

Brown enlisted September 10, 1561, at Valparaiso, Ind., and in the muster in of Company G, Ninth Illinois Cavalry, he was appointed First Sergeant and was promoted to be Second Lieutenant November 9th, following, serving with his company in the campaigns in Missouri and Arkansas till the fall of 1862, when he tendered his resignation, which was accepted October 21, 1802, after which he returned to his home, and later removed to Chicago, where he has been in the employ of the city for many years, eftermed and respected by all who know him, his address now being Chicago, III.
SKETCH OF LIEUTENANT HUNTINGTON
Henry A. Huntington enlisted at Valparaiso, Ind., and was commi coned Second Lieutenant of Company G Ninth Illinois Cavalry, October 9, 1861, but did not remain with us long, as he was soon thereafter transferred to the regular army, in which he attained the rank of Major.
On leaving the service Major Huntington returned to Chicago, and later tink his departure for foreign shore, and is now, 1899, living in Paris, France.

Geo. B. Reed enlisted September 10, 1861, at Lowell. Ind., sull rocalisted as a veteran, July 1, 1861, wa promoted First Sergeant and commissioned Second Lieutenant, March 28, 1865, and remained in the service until October 21. 1565. when the regiment was mustered out at Selma, Ala.
Lieutenant Reed was with his company all through the service, and in all the engagements of the same, a good soldier, attentive to duty, and ever ready for the fray.
Since the war he has drifted to the North, and his present address is Jordan. Minh
William Rinker enlisted at Tassinong, Ind., September 10, 1561, and WEus promoted Corporal of his Company, G. Ninth Hindi Cataly. ring with Them as a brave and faithful soldigy in the battle and skirmishes of the Ninthtill IN. cember 4. 1, when he was captured by Forest's cavehy, and there's a pie- oner to Calaba, Andersonville, Charleston and Florence, and after muchichanin treatment he was exchanged about the 15th of December, 18tl, and was sent to Annapolis, Md., and from there to Chicago, where he was discharged, May 1 ;. 1865.
Since the war Comrade Rinker returned to his old home at Tassinong. Ind . which is his present address.
Stewart J. Bailey, Sergeant of Company G. Ninth Ilinois Cavalry, enfi tod from Marshall County, Ind., September 10, 1911, and served as one of the best soldiers of the Ninth natil the expiration of his terms of service, October Si Jait. when he was mustered out, and returned to his old home.
Commande Bailey was one of our reliables He wasactive on duty with Li company, and gained and held the respect and confidence of all. In the tall of 1863 he was detailed to assist Lieutenant Davenport in the Commissary Depart- ment of the regiment, and was a valuable nym in every position in which he was placed.
