We recognize in this platform the same old straddling platform that can be construed to mean almost anything and is an insult to the intelligence of the people of this great nation of seventy million people and believe its principle object is to catch votes and that it is in strong contrast to the independence of this people as expressed on all other questions.

Fifth, As this convention only has a hearing on national questions we believe that state and local questions may be left to our next convention for settlement.

In conclusion we invite all loyal citizens, no matter what your party affiliations before have been, to come and go with us For we need the aid of every patriotic citizen in this broad land, - for never was there a time in the history of our Republic, since the Revolutionary forces were en- camped in Valley Forge, when it was so important that those that hold the welfare of their country above the behests of the party, should unite. We must unite if we would save the Prin- cipals of Liberty set up by the Founders of the Republic.

Plutocracy is safe in the hands of either party. They are parties The great common peo- ple, the bulwark of all Republics, must come out. To be divided is to accomplish nothing. It means complete subjection, but to be united, is to be invincible. The crisis is now, "you stand in the pass behind which your countries liberties are guardei." Will you come out? This is a call for volunteers You can secure your country infinately better by your ballots, than you ever could by bullets

War is brutal, 'tis the only force of brutes We want you We welcome; you. Will you come and go with us?

E. Bierer, Chas. Macho, Felix O'Neil and Niram Curtis were elected dele- gates to the state convention.

J. D. Hardy was endorsed as a delegate to the national convention.

The committee on resolutions reported the following which were adopted: The People's Party of Brown county, in convention assembled do this day re-affirm their faith in Populist principles.

We are positive that the people now fully realize the serious results of the continued industri- al depression; and that when they become fully awake to the eminent danger that hovers over them they will sever party ties and rally to the standard of true reform.

We point to the example of the Chicago convention where the bosses and so called leaders of an old time party were relegated to back seats and the common people, the rank and file, arose in their might and sovereign majesty and used their privelege of free and independent men to work for themselves and humanity, by repudiating the chief magistrate of the national adminis- tration although a member of their own party. We commend their courage for this deed .

We feel that we owe it to the oppressed people of this nation to keep out former pledges to do what we can to break the money monopoly and to this end we hereby instruct our delegates to the St. Louis convention to work and vote for the nomination of that irrepressible, eloquent and true friend of the masses, W J. Bryan.

We hold as heretofore that the money question overshadows all others and that we refuse to be side tracked to any other; but shall use all honest endeavors to bring about the fall of the power that oppresses the people.

As a beginning to this end, we again declare that we stand for the free coinage of both gold and silver at the ratio of 16 to 1 We hold as heretofore that the solution of the industrial and commercial problems lies in the money, transportation and land questions, and we believe that we can not reap the degrees of prosperity that we are entitled to until these questions are settled on these lines

We shall not at this time make any declarations in regard to state or county affairs, more than to say that we trust our county delegates to the state convention will work for the best in- terest of the People's Party

The following resolution was also adopted:

WHEREAS, we recognize in Col. E Bierer an able and honest man of marked ability there- fore be it

Resolved, That we present him to the Congressional convention as a worthy person to be- come our standard bearer in the canvass for member of Congress from this district.

Second, That we stand squarely on that platform and especially the plank which advocates the free coinage of silver at the ratio of 16 to 1.

Third, That we denounce the action of the Supreme court of the United States for their action in regard to the income tax law. We denounce it as being dangerous to the commonwealth when it seeks to over ride the actions of congress and the United State senate."

Fourth, We hold that the monopolies, combines and trusts that are today sapping the life out of trade and commerce are the legitimate offspring of the Republican party and that through the Democratic party these evils will be corrected.

Fifth, That we endorse the candidacy of Wm. J. Bryan and Arthur Sewell for the presidency and vice-presidency of the United State and that we will use all legitimate means in our power to secure their election on the 4th of November 1896, and also of the nominees of this convention.

Resolved, That we recognize the administration of the duties of county attorney by James A. Clark as faithful and according to the dictates of the law. We further declare that the appoint- ment by Gov. Morrill of an assistant attorney general was uncalled for and that the condition of affairs under Reber's administration is more deplorable now than when he was appointed to the office.
