Third ward-John Clark, Thos. Nesbit, L. E. Parker, Dave Paschal
Fourth ward-J. A. Payne, Fred Dabner, Thos Fern S. E. Wallace, Al Michaels
Padonia-J. H. Brigham, Chris Leibengood, H. R. Thomas, W. H. Hart, J. P. Winslow.
The committee on resolutions reported the following platform which was adopted:
We, the Republicans of Brown County assembled in convention, find in the Republican pledges made at St. Louis, and faithfully carried out by a Republican administration, new grounds for our undying belief that the Republican party is now, and always has been, the best party.
We rejoice in the splendid leadership of our president, Wm. Mckinley, as a soldier, states- man and president. He is one of the matchless figures of our glorious American history .
We are proud of our representatives in congress, Senator Lucian Baker, Hon. Case Broder- ick and Hon. Chas Curtis. We desire to re-inforce them with W J. Bailey, congressman-at- large, and with the Republican candidate in each congressional district.
We believe that a party should keep its promises-something the Populist party has never done We call attention to the Populist record of perfidy and corruption and submit the evidence of leading Populists who have branded their own legislature and administration false to the best interests of the great commonwealth of Kansas.
We invite the citizens of Brown County who want a change to unite with us in a fair and manly effort to elect the Republican ticket lead by W. E. Stanley, together with the entire Re- publican ticket as completed here this day.
B. F. Kiner was nominated for county superintendent by acclamation.
For county attorney Sample F. Newlon received 125 votes and W. F. Shale 13.

ANNALS OF BROWN COUNTY.
1899]
The committee on resolutions reported the following platform which was adopted:
"The Democrats of Brown county, in delegate convention assembled, endorse in unqualified terms the Chicago platform of 1896.
"We condemn as un-American and unjust the policy of the national administration in its manner of dealing with the business arising out of the Spanish war, and especially with that portion concerning the Philippines.
"We denounce as hypocrisy the alleged opposition of the national administration to trusts and point to the fact that the principal advisors of those in power are connected with the most merciless trusts in existence as evidence of this hypocrisy.
"We condemn the present state administration for its utter inefficiency in failing to carry out the policy which has been inaugurated by its immediate predecessor in bringing the stock yards, insurance trusts and other leeches under subjection to the law and administering the business of charitable institutions for the benefit of the inmates rather than the politicians.
"We condemn the Republican majority of the board of county commissioners for its extrava- gant and incompetent management of the funds of the county, for needlessly increasing the ex- penses of the county in making contracts for refunding the county bonds before they matured without having advertised for bids, for having raised the salaries of the county officers from $200 to $400 per annum when no additional labor was required, for donating to the probate judge the sum of $800 after his term of office had expired.
"We commend Commissioner Allen Lichty for his stroug, able and persistant opposition to the unnecessary and wasteful expenditures of the county funds and for his able and persevering efforts in behalf of the welfare of the county.
"We pledge our hearty and loyal support to the candidates nominated by this convention to-day."
