Clark; Horton, 3rd ward, W. H. Kemper; Horton, 4th ward, W. W. Letson: Hiawatha Township, J. L Allem; Washing- ton, Dick Whalen; Reserve, J. M. Cecil.
The committee organized by the election of W. W. Letson as chairman and Grant W. Harrington as secretary.
The following platform was adopted:
We, the silver voters of Brown County, do proclaim our unwavering faith in the 16 to 1 doctrine, by joining hands and minds to defend silver and to work for and demand for it, its old time position of free coinage and legal qualification On this issue we declare ourselves to be in favor of a distinctively American financial system. We are unalterably opposed to the single standard, and demand the immediate return to the constitutional standard of gold and silver by the restoration by this government, independently of any foreign power, of the unrestricted coinage of gold and silver as the standard money, at the ratio of 16 to 1, and upon terms of ex- act equality as existed prior to 1873, the silver to be of full legal tender equally with gold for all debts and dues, public and private.
We declare firm opposition to all trusts and monopolies, and denounce all laws that give the money power advantage over the farmer, the mechanic, the laborer, and the ordinary busi- ness man, and extend sympathy to the miners who are now contending for a livelihood against one of the most dangerous combinations that threatens the liberty, happiness and prosperity of the nation.
We invite all persons to assist us in regaining constitutional rights, to fight trusts, to as- sist struggling humanity in its fight against avarice and greed, and to contend for the safety of constitutional liberty, all of which are fundamental principals with the silver party, whose bat- tle cry is 16 to 1, and whose national champion and standard bearer is William Jennings Bryan.

attended the action of the people of the United States in enacting those principles into laws and thereby securing to our beloved country another era of prosperity and contentment, under Re- publican rule and in replenishing the nation's depleted treasury with bounteous revenues and fill- ing her people with new hopes, new inspirations and giving them plenty instead of need and despair We most heartily endorse and commend the wise, patriotic and statesmen-like admin- istration of President Wm. Mckinley and we hereby express our unqualified approbation in pro- tecting the rights and interests of our common country, as well as declaring to the world that America is for freemen and not for slaves, and that starving, suffering humanity in Cuba must be released from Spanish tyranny and barbarism and adopted into the sisterhood of American Republics. With one voice we unite in commending and approving our president's wise and conservative course in dealing with the present impending crisis and we extend to him our sym- pathy and our untiring devotion and support. We earnestly commend and approve of the action and course of Senator Lucien Baker, and the two Republican congressmen from Kansas, the Hon Case Broderick and Hon. Chas.
