REPORT OF SELECTMEN

To the Citizens of Duxbury :

Your board makes the following report for the year ending December 31, 1936.

There is very little to report on at this time. The corner of Alden Street has been widened at the inter- section of St. George Street, making a much safer en- trance, thus avoiding many narrow escapes of collisions as previously occurred.

The sidewalk on Washington Street has been com- pleted as far as Harrison Street.

Franklin Street has been tarred from Congress Street to State Highway, Route 3, making a good road and much more used as a nearer route to Kingston and Plymouth from No. Duxbury and Marshfield.

The amount of money raised at the last annual meet- ing for the building of the wharf and float at Matta- keesett Court Town Landing was much too little. It being necessary to have the piles driven by a Pile Driver, it took the most of the money for that purpose and expense of engineering and plans demanded by the State and Federal Government. In order to have the wharf completed to save it from destruction from the ice and winter storms, we were obliged to call a Special Meeting to raise money to complete same.

The clam industry has proven itself to be our chief business. And in order to be able to keep this as a paying business, there have been some changes made by the Selectmen in joining with the towns of Plymouth

8

and Kingston in making uniform regulations for all three towns. There will be no more money coming from the Federal Government for propagating and car- ing for clams. We are charging those digging clams for commercial purposes five cents per bushel after the first hundred bushels. And we are going to ask the voters to raise and appropriate a reasonable sum of money to re-seed and destroy the enemies. We feel that the amount of money received by the town should be all or in part used for this purpose.

It is the thought of your Selectmen that we should keep our expenses as low as possible without allowing depreciation in the various departments.

SIDNEY C. SOULE, HARRY F. SWIFT, CHARLES R. CROCKER,

Selectmen of Duxbury.
