Report of Selectmen

To the Citizens of Duxbury:

Your board makes the following report for the year ending December 31st, 1939.

The work of the board has been chiefly of a routine nature.

It has been necessary to hold two Special Town Meet- ings this year on account of the extra money needed for the dredging at the Duxbury Yacht Club Basin. Also to transfer money for the payment of snow bills and for highway bills caused by the necessity of the purchasing of drain tile and the building of man-holes on the prop- erties of Harry E. Towle and Helen M. Abbot in order to drain the highway from Washington Street to the Bay.

This was caused by the filling on the land through which the drainage was cared for in the past.

The board has spent approximately one half of the money raised for the seeding of clams. We were unable to purchase any seed out of town that was suitable to plant. That which we seeded was of a size that grew to be large enough for market and was dug for the market this past fall and winter. There is a scarcity of marketable ones at the present time.

There is however a large amount of small seed that will be available for seeding this coming spring.

We feel we have money enough from last year's appro- priation to seed the barren areas the coming season.

Once again we wish to suggest to the voters that they try and keep our appropriations to the minimum required without depreciation to our various departments.

SIDNEY C. SOULE HARRY F. SWIFT CHARLES R. CROCKER
