Four cases were pending in the courts at the close of the year. They are:
Virginia Garand vs City of Newburyport. Carolyn Francois vs City of Newburyport. Isaac U. Wood vs City of Newburyport. T. Francis Kelleher vs City of Newburyport.
In addition to the services performed in connection with the foregoing cases I have rendered a large number of opinions to the several municipal departments. I have appeared frequently for the police department and conducted the prose- cution of criminal cases before the district court. In the interest of the city, I have conferred several times with different departments at the State House, and have appeared at hearings where matters of interest to Newburyport were in- volved.
In November, 1932, Mayor Morrill appointed a committee consisting of Councillors Brown and Fogg, Messrs. John H. Maguire, Jr., and Forrest Gould and the city solicitor to investigate conditions at the clam plant. This committee found it necessary to devote many hours to the hearing of testimony, the ex- amination of records and the preparation of its report. This work was completed a few days ago and the report filed with His Honor the Mayor.
Respectfully submitted,
MALCOLM G. AYERS,
City Solicitor.
