Article 6. Unanimously voted, that a committee of Expenditure fifteen be appointed by the Moderator, to whom all sub- jects involving an expenditure of money should be re- ferred for examination, with instruction to report upon the same to the town. Unanimously voted, that the Treasurer is borrow money. hereby authorized and directed to borrow from time to. time, with the approval of the majority of the Seleet- men, a sum or sums in the aggregate not exeeeding thirty thousand dollars, and to execute and deliver the note or notes of the town therefor, payable within one year from the time the loan is made, with interest there- on at a rate not exceeding six per cent per annum, the debt or debts incurred by a loan or loans to the town under this vote to be paid from the taxes of the present municipal year.

Report of Committee on Article 11. The committee appointed January 1, Town Hall site 1896, under Artiele 8, relative to selecting a suitable site for a Town Hall, made the following report:


That a committee which is not authorized to purchase cannot get owners to name satisfactory priees, and that it is not for the interest of the town to appoint any committee to obtain the refusal of land for a Town Hall site, unless such committee be authorized to make a contract for the purchase of the same. This committee therefore recommends that a committee be appointed to secure a site for a Town Hall, and authorized to make a contraet for the purchase of any piece of land on Washington Street between Railroad Avenue and Dr. Fogg's residence, which sueh committee may be able to obtain for said purpose, on terms which, in their judg-

On motion voted, that said report be accepted and placed on file, and that the Selectmen be instructed to have said report printed in full in the next annual report.


The committee appointed January 20, 1898, under Resolutions of Article 2 to draw up a resolution of thanks to Mr. and thanks to Mr. Mrs. Gco. H. Morrill, presented the following:


The town of Norwood desires to acknowledge in some Building. fitting manner the munificent gift of the Morrill Memo- rial Library, presented by its esteemed friends, George H. and Louisa J. Morrill, who consummated on the first day of February, 1898, their generous and philanthropic purpose of donating to the town a substantial and ele- gant building, with suitable adjoining grounds, to be used as a Free Public Library.


Be it therefore Resolved, that we, the citizens of Nor- wood, in town meeting assembled, hereby convey to Mr. and Mrs. Morrill an expression of our decp grati- tude for their noble gift, so admirably adapted to the object for which it has been dedicated, and assure them that we shall value it the more because it shall ever stand as a thoughtful reminder of those who have so long made their home among us and because it also calls

On motion it was unanimously voted, that the above resolution of thanks be adopted, spread upon the town reeords, and that it be engrossed upon parehment, suita- bly framed, and presented to Mr. and Mrs. Morrill.


Guide Boards.


The report of the Seleetmen on guideboards and street signs was presented, and by vote was referred to the committee of fifteen appointed under Article 6.


New By-Laws accepted and adopted, $75


The Committee on By-Laws were given further time. At the adjourned meeting April 11, the Committee to revise the By-Laws of the town, appointed at the an- nual town meeting in March, 1896, made a report and presented the revised By-Laws which were read in full. Unanimously voted, that said report be aceepted and the recommendations adopted.


Unanimously voted, that $75.00 be raised and appro- priated for expense of printing one thousand copies of the By-Laws of the town, and that the Town Clerk present an attested copy to the eourts for approval.


Public Library $2500.


Article 12. Referred to committee of fifteen. At ad- journed meeting April 11, unanimously voted, that twenty-five hundred dollars be raised and appropriated for the support of the Publie Library.


Dog Tax to Public Library

April 11, voted (133 voting in the affirmative, 1 in the negative), that an addition of six rooms to the Guild Sehoolhouse at a cost not ex- eecding $17,000; that the town Treasurer be author- ized to borrow on notes of the town, with the approval of the Seleetmen: $3,000 due in 1899; $3,000 due in 1900; $3,000 due in 1901; $3,000 due in 1902; and the balanec, not exceeding $5,000, due in 1903, and that a building committee of five be appointed by the chair.

To either Constable of the Town of Norwood, in said County, GREETING:


In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabi- tants of the town of Norwood, qualified to vote in elec- tions and town affairs, to assemble in Village Hall, in said town, on Monday, the eleventh day of April, 1898, at seven o'clock in the forenoon, then and there to act on the following articles, namely:


Town Meeting Warrant, April 11, 1808,


Article 1. To choose a Moderator to preside at said meeting.


Article 2. Shall there be three stations in Norwood on the New England Railroad west of Ellis station, lo- cated practically as at present, with the central station either at its present location or at Day Street, or shall the number be reduced to two stations as proposed at Nahatan Street and the Norwood Press? The vote on these questions to be taken by the Australian ballot, and the polls shall be opened at seven o'clock in the forenoon and closed not earlier than seven o'clock in the after- noon.


Article 3. To see what further action the town will take regarding the Norwood railroad stations.


Article 4. To see if the town will vote to accept for a park a deed of the lot of land between Morse Avenue and Howard Street.


Article 5. To see of the town will vote to accept of Granite and Warren Streets as now graded, and raise and appropriate money to gravel the same.


Article 6. To see if the town will vote to choose a committee with full authority to buy a lot of land for a Town Hall, and raise and appropriate or borrow money for that purpose, or to take any other action in the matter.


Article 7. To see if the town will vote to place fire

alarm boxes at the corner of Nahatan and Prospeet Streets and Roek and Pleasant Streets, and raise and appropriate money for that purpose.


Article 8. To see if the town will vote to purchase the lot of land on Prospeet Street adjoining the New Eng- land Railroad, of Mrs. Nancy M. Page, for a park and raise and appropriate or borrow money for that purpose.


Article 9. To see if the town will vote to extend the water mains on Central Street, from Guild Street to Park Street, when the same shall have been aeeepted by the Selectinen, and raise and appropriate or borrow money for the same, subject to the usual guaranty.


Article 10. To see if the town will vote in aecordanee with the aet of the Legislature to issue bonds, notes or seript for the extension of the Water Works.


Article 11. To see if the town will raise, appropriate or borrow money for the payment of any part of the principal or interest of said notes, bonds or seript for a sinking fund.


And the polls may be closed as early as seven o'clock in the afternoon of said day.


Hereof fail not, and make due return of this warrant, witli your doings thereon, to the Selectmen, on or be- fore the time and day of said meeting.
