THE ROMAN CATHOLIC MUTUAL INSUR" ANCE CORPORATION OF HAMPDEN COUNTY -Organized May 24, 1877. Membership will be available only to Catholic males, res- ident in this county, between the ages of 21 and 50 (inclusive), and the membership fee will be : For those under thirty, $1.50; 30 to 40, $2; 40 to 45, $2.50; 45 to 50, 83. In each instance $1 is taken from the mem- bership fee for a relief fund. In case of the death of a member, each of the survivors is called upon to pay $1, and whenever any fail within thirty-three days to do so, the loss is made up from the relief fund, so that in every case the family of the deceased will receive as many dollars as there are mem- bers at his death. No member who fails to pay an assessment can be reinstated except upon payment of the admission fee, the same as a new member. Expenses will be redneed to the lowest possible minimum, the secretary and all the officers serving without salary, and the secretary furnishing tlie use of his office without charge. The usual large expense of postage in sending


out notices of assessments, will be saved by forwarding a notice to each Catholic church in the county, and the priests will read theni from the altar ; and as every good Catholic is presumed to attend church, this notice is deemed sufficient. THE HAMPDEN CONFERENCE AND BE- NEVOLENT ASSOCIATION-Was organized in 1831, and represents the 38 Congregational churches of the County, in annual conven- tion. Besides their own support nearly thirty of the churchies, at the last meeting, reported benevolent contributions for the past year, amounting to $36,561.99. This . association receives contributions for the fol- lowing : American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions ; Woman's Board of Missions; American Home Missionary So- ciety ; American Missionary Society ; Home Evangelization Society ; American Sunday- school Union ; American Seaman's Friend Society ; Congregational Union ; Congre- gational Publishing Society ; Ministerial Aid Society ; American Bible Society ; Ameri- can Traet Society ; American College and Educational Society.
