A second major problem area is the program of studies at the upper grade level. The basic areas of communication skills, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science are well defined and adequately staffed. However, because of the increase in enrollments and the consequent multiplication of classes we find ourselves understaffed in the areas of Art, Physical Education, Music, Manual Arts, and Domestic Science. In fact, at the present time, the last two are virtually non-existent. It is planned to add one teacher to the staff in September to allow for a half time assignment in each of these two areas. In future years it will be necessary to add other teachers in the other three areas, not alone to maintain our present coverage, but to gain back some of the ground which has been lost in recent years.
Respectfully submitted,
Douglass B. Roberts

SCHOOL NURSE
SCHOOL NURSE'S REPORT
To the School Committee:
A report of school nursing for the year ending December 31, 1954, is hereby submitted.
Schools have been visited daily. There have been 331 office calls for treatment or advice; 41 pupils taken home, 225 home calls to check on absentees.
All pupils have been weighed and measured at least twice, and scalp examined twice.
All pupils, excepting 7, who were absent, received an Audiometer test, also a Massachusetts Vision Chart test. Four found with defec- tive hearing, all visited their family physician with the result that two had an adenoidectomy; one under observation, and one under treat- ment. Five pupils discovered with defective sight; two now wearing glasses; one under treatment and two under observation.
Children entering kindergarten and others new to first grade were requested to have a physical examination. 57 children attended our well child conference, were examined by Dr. John A. V. Davies. 31 children received Triple Antigen, 19 were vaccinated, and 15 received a "Booster" shot. ll parents came for our school physical record car and had their child examined by the family physician.
I assisted Dr. David Farrell at the dental clinic two half days each week and at the oral examination of each pupil. Dr. Farrell visited two classrooms and talked to pupils on oral care. 2 pupils were taker to Middlesex Sanatorium for chest X-Rays, and 2 pupils were taken to Sanatorium by their parents, and five teachers, 2 school bus drivers, one secretary and the school nurse all had X-Rays - all were negative.
I have had five classroom chats with the pupils, all very interest- ing and the children were very responsive; two talks with about twenty of our young ladies, topic "Growing Up" .
There were 159 cases of mumps; 35 cases of chicken pox; 3 cases of measles among our pupils.
Respectfully submitted, Marian N. Ober, R. N. School Nurse
