REPORT OF THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
In making out the annual report, the Committee find that - the schools as a whole, are in a prosperous condition, still there is a chance for improvement, as we live in an age of progression.
They have kept the usual number of weeks, with one ex- ception, that of No. 7 at Myricks was closed for four weeks, owing to the prevalence of scarlet fever in a mild form.
The Committee wish that the several schools were more evenly divided in regard to numbers, as they range from eight to forty-seven.
They also see the imperative need in one school, of em- ploying an assistant, or the transportation of some of the scholars to a smaller school.
Our expenditures for books and supplies will exceed that of last year, as we are nearly out of all supplies, and some of the books in No. 7 school have been destroyed owing to the scarlet fever.
47
ANNUAL REPORT.
Therefore we would recommend an increase in the appro- priation this coming year, of at least Two Hundred Dollars over that of last.
It is the duty of parents, as well as teachers, to see that their children are regular at school, diligent in their studies, and obedient to their teachers; for with the combined effort of parent and teacher the scholar will succeed better in his studies, and also in his life work, for we realize that it is the scholar of to-day that is to mold and shape the character and destiny of our Nation in the future.
REPAIRS OF SCHOOL BUILDINGS.
The school houses have been kept in ordinary repair.
At No. 2 the building has been painted. At No. 7 some repairing and painting of blinds.
At No. 4 we would recommend that the building be paint- ed this coming year.
In closing this report, your committee wish to thank the citizens of the town for their confidence and assistance during the past year, and the teachers for the faithfulness with which they have performed their duties.
Respectfully submitted,
ALTON W. REED,
EDWIN H. ALLEN, School JAMES W. PAULL, Committee.
