Report of the Selectmen
To The Citizens of Rutland : -
In submitting our Report for the year ending December 31, 1937, we pause to pay tribute to the memory of one of our official family, who passed from us near the close of the year.
On December 17, 1937, Mr. Louis M. Hanff passed away at his home on Maple Avenue in his 80th year. He had been a resident of Rutland since 1884, holding public office practi- cally continuously since becoming a resident, and having held nearly every Town Office during that period. The most out- standing office being that of Town Clerk, which office he held for forty-two consecutive years. He worked for the best in- terest of all the Citizens of the Community, ever striving to make our Town a better place in which to live. He has left a record which is a real challenge to the youth of our Town, and let us hope they may accept the challenge and endeavor to carry on the god work he so faithfully performed. In his pass- ing, Rutland has lost a most valued Citizen and Public Ser- vant. He has left vacant a place in our Community which will be hard to fill.
