On February 1, 1922 I began work in the Weymouth Schools as school nurse. It seemed advisable to follow as closely as possi- ble Miss Downey's outline and each child was seen individually, out of the class room, for defective sight, adenoids, enlarged or diseased tonsils, carious teeth or other defects. Instruction was given regarding the proper care of the teeth. In case of ade- noids or enlarged tonsils the children were examined and advised by the School Physician.
The District Nurse Association has purchased a portable den- tal equipment and under its direction the first dental clinic was held in the Dispensary, East Weymouth, May 12, 1922. Children from East Weymouth Schools attended in groups for prophylactic treatment. Three mornings each week, from 9 till 12, were devoted to this work, Dr. M. J. Sweeney in charge. After caring for the children in this part of the town the clinic moved to the Hunt School. Up to the close of school two hundred and twenty-eight children had been cared for and referred to their dentists for future treatment.
On October 30, 1922 Miss Alice A. Conroy, a graduate of Forsythe Dental Infirmary, began work as Dental Hygienist. Seven hours of each school day are devoted to this work. Up to January 1, 1923 four hundred and ninety-five children have been cared for and advised. Miss Conroy has proved conclusively the importance of this work.
There were two eye clinics conducted by Dr. C. F. Worthen, 390 Commonwealth Ave, Boston, an eye specialist, and Mr. Howard Bartlett, of Bartlett & Son, 400 Boylston, Boston, made the glasses. These clinics were held in the Hunt School. Twenty-four children were cared for at the first clinic and fifteen at the second.
Elm Farm Milk Company supplies three of our schools with
148
milk and in one school cocoa is served during the lunch hour. Children under weight are advised as to diet and health habits and home visits are made when it seems advisable. Children have been excluded for scabies and some cases of impetigo, but it has been found more satisfactory to treat the majority of the impetigo cases in school. By following the minor ills of our school children we hope in a measure to prevent the more serious illnesses.
A class in Home Hygiene and Care of the Sick has been formed at the High School under the supervision of the Red Cross. It consists of fifteen lessons of practical demonstrations in how to carry out doctor's orders, diets, proper care in the sickroom, how to make a bed with a patient in it, etc. After examination has been successfully passed a certificate will be given.
I greatly appreciate the co-operation and support of the Super- intendent and Teachers who have made it possible for me to ac- complish this work.
AGRICULTURE
(Report of Mr. Earl M. Ricker, Director of Agriculture.)
The total enrolment in the Agricultural Department for the year was thirty-three, two of the boys receiving graduation dip- lomas.
The projects carried on during the year numbered sixteen, representing a total market value of products of $5986.84 made up as follows : --
Dairying
$4051.58
Poultry
1,438.74
Gardens
205.59
Fruit 36.50
Substitution 254.43
The largest number of cows in a dairy project was three and netted a labor return of $761.79 over and above all expenses.
In the poultry project one hundred and fifty birds was the largest number kept by one boy and they gave a net return of $301.91 after all expenses had been deducted.
The number of home gardens as well as the size was less than in past years. The largest acreage was one-half acre which re- turned $53.21 for labor expended during the summer.
A start was made this year to introduce small fruit growing for project work. A strawberry project of one-twentieth acre gave $36.50 net profit which shows the opportunity for this type of project.
Three boys were unable to have home projects and worked on neighboring farms for their experience. The largest labor return in this case was $130.00.
The practice of taking classes to visit agricultural enterprises was continued again this year. The following places were visited during the year : --
Place
Object
L. S. Files, South Weymouth Poultry culling demonstration. Weymouth Stock Farm, North Weymouth Judging Ayshire Cattle. Weymouth Stock Farm, N. Weymouth Barn Const. and Vent. Saltonsthal Farm, Canton Judging Shorthorns

See Tractor in operation Hot Beds and Cold Frames Production Certified Milk Silo filling Pruning peaches, grapes Pruning bearing apple trees Grafting apple trees Manufacture of Ice Cream Auction Sale of Guernseys
These visits provided an exceptional opportunity to study practical agriculture outside the classroom and I wish to express my thanks and appreciation for the hearty co-operation given by those who gave their time, use of stock and use of their places to further the work of the department.
GENERAL
During the last few years we have experienced many conditions that have militated against obtaining the best results from our schools. There have been epidemics or weather conditions have been such that the attendance has been small during certain periods of the year. For the year closing in June our per cent of attend- ance was 92.3, the average for the state being 92.97. There is every prospect that the per cent. of attendance will be low for next year, as during the fall months we have had rather a spectac- ular run of scarlet fever combined with the mumps.
A few changes have been made in the text books. The New World Speller has been introduced in the first four grades, Vital English, a language book, in the fifth and considerable supple- mentary reading added to the list in several of the grades. Thir- teen new typewriters have been purchased from the Underwood Typewriter Co. in exchange for the same number of Royals upon which the three-year agreement had expired.
In conclusion I wish to thank the Committee, teachers and the community for their hearty support throughout the year.
Respectfully submitted, PARKER T. PEARSON
Superintendent of Schools.

ODE OF THE CLASS OF 1922 By Pauline Blackwell
As dawns a new day on a waiting world, To shed a new hope on our lives each day; As rises from the east the glorious sun, And bathes the earth in ever marvelous ray ; So rises from our hearts a vision bright Of cheering hope to guide us on our way.
As pours the lark upon a springtime morn His floods of music o'er the wak'ning land; As thrills the nightingale at ev'ning's close Re t bringin~ to the weary. laboring band; So floods on us a sweet, melodious song, A vision of a world, ours to command.
As springs the opening flower from earth-bed green To light and beautify the world anew; As mists of morning fall from heav'n above, Bathing the mystic scene with crystal dew; So we shall enter that fair promised land And all our high ideals and hopes renew.
Music by Mary Frances Hoffman.
