Article 58. Voted: That the Trustees of the sinking fund of the Water Department be and hereby are authorized to transfer to the Water Commissioners all funds held by them and not need- ed for sinking fund purposes.


Article 59. Voted: That the Board of Water Commission- ers be authorized to purchase or take by right of eminent domain land bordering on Weymouth Great Pond and to appropriate funds within the control of said Commissioners sufficient in amount to pay for the same.


Article 60. Voted : No action be taken under this article.


Article 61. Voted : That the subject matter of this article be referred to the Water Commissioners.


Article 62. Voted : That a committee of thirteen be and hereby are appointed to consist of the chairman and clerk of the Selectmen, the Assessors, the Planning Board, the Water Com- missioners, the President and Chairman of the Conservation Com- mittee of the Old Colony Club and of the Monday Club, to take into consideration and investigate the possibility of the town for Town Forests or to have the water supply area converted into a town forest.


Article 63. Voted : To raise and appropriate the sum of $150 and appropriate the sum of $4,250 for the payment of State and Military Aid and for burials under the provisions of Chapter 115 of the General Laws.


Article 64. Voted : To raise and appropriate the sum of $6,000 for the relief of disabled soldiers and seamen under the provisions of Chapter 115 of the General Laws.


Article 65. Voted : To raise and appropriate the sum of $25,000 for the relief of the Poor.


Article 66. Voted: No action be taken under this article. Article 67. Voted : To raise and appropriate the sum of $350 for the employment by the Overseers of the Poor of a Wel- fare Worker to look after and investigate the needs of the poor, under the jurisdiction of the Overseers of the Poor.


Voted : To adjourn to convene at the assembly hall of the Weymouth High School on Monday evening, March 13, 1922, at 7.45 o'clock.

ADJOURNED ANNUAL TOWN MEETING


The adjourned annual town meeting of the inhabitants of Weymouth was held at the assembly hall of the Weymouth High School, East Weymouth, on Monday evening, March 13, 1922. Hon. George L. Barnes, Annual Moderator called the meeting to order at 7.45 o'clock. 128 Town Meeting Members present out of 184 total members.


Article 68. Voted : To raise and appropriate the sum of $8,000 and further to appropriate from any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated the sum of $1,500 for the support and maintenance of Tufts Library and that the income from the Augustus J. Richards, Joseph E. Trask, Sussanna Hunt, Charles Q. Tirrell and all other funds be used for the purpose designated by the respective donors.


Article 69. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $750 for the maintenance of a reading room at Fogg Library.


Article 70. Motion offered by Edward C. Barker, secretary of the Appropriation committee : That the Town authorize its Electric Light Committee to contract with the Weymouth Light & Power Company for furnishing lights for the town, for a period not to exceed five years, any contract, however, to be subject to the approval of the Town Counsel before its execution.


Mr. Melville F. Cate moved as an amendment, that the con- tract be for a period of one year.


This amendment was carried.


The motion as amended was carried.


Mr. Sidney G. Dunbar, a member of the Electric Light Com- mittee read the proposed contract and stated that in the event that a one year contract should be voted instead of a five year contract, the price for a one year contract would be 5 per cent. increase in amount.


Mr. Melville F. Cate moved and it was so voted : That in the event the price of the Weymouth Light & Power Company for furnishing lights for the town be increased 5 per cent. for a con- tract of one year instead of five years the Selectmen be authorized to appeal to the Public Utilities Commission of the State of Massa- chusetts.


Article 71. Voted : To raise and appropriate the sum of $17,000 for Street Lighting, and that the matter of installing new lights be left with the Electric Light Committee.


Aricle 72. Voted : That the subject matter of this article be referred to the Electric Light Committee.


Article 73. Voted : To raise and appropriate the sum of $1,500 for the maintenance of the Town Survey, provided the sheets are available in time for the Assessors use; the money to be expended under the direction of the Selectmen.


Article 75. Voted: That the salary of the Tax Collector be 8 mills on the dollar of taxes actually collected, and that the Select- men be authorized to insure the Tax Collector in the sum of $15,000 hold-up insurance.

The time of payment and rate of interest on unpaid taxes be fixed in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 59, Section 57 of the General Laws.


Article 76. Voted : That no action be taken under this arti- cle.


Article 77. Voted : To raise and appropriate the sum of $14,788.45 for the payment of interest which may become due the current year.


Article 78. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $4,500 for Printing and Advertising.


Article 79. Motion offered by Edward C. Barker, secretary of the Appropriation committee: That no action be taken under this article.


The Moderator declared the motion as carried.


This being doubted by seven legal voters, the tellers proceeded to verify the vote, John E. Mulligan was appointed as teller in place of Joseph W. McDonald who was not present, he was sworn in as such by the Moderator.


The result of the vote was 73 in favor, 33 against. Motion carried.


Article 80. Voted : To raise and appropriate the sum of $750 for the preservation of shade trees, to be expended under the supervision of the Tree Warden.


Article 81. Motion offered by Edward C. Barker, secretary of the Appropriation committee : To raise and appropriate the sum of $4,000 for the suppression of gypsy and brown tail moths, and further to appropriate from any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated the sum of $2,500 for work which the Moth Department may do and which is assessed upon property owners and for other work for which the town is reimbursed and so voted.


Article 82. Voted : To raise and appropriate the sum of $400 for Memorial Day.


Article 83. Voted: To appropriate from any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated the sum of $350 for the Ale- wive Fishery, and that the Selectmen be a committee of the town to conduct the Alewive Fishery.


Article 85. Motion offered by Edward C. Barker, secretary of the Appropriation committee: That the Selectmen be and hereby are authorized to sell any real estate of which the town is possessed and for which it has no further use, to be sold at public auction.


Mr. Preston Lewis moved as an amendment: That the Select- men be requested to report at some future meeting before such sale.


The amendment was so voted.


The motion as amended was so voted.


Article 86. Voted: To accept the report of the Selectmen for the laying out as a town way, the private way known as Lov- ell Court and Lovell Court extension to Great Hill, in accordance with the plans already laid out by Russell H. Whiting, C. E.

Article 87. Motion offered by Mr. Josiah B. Reedd : To raise and appropriate the sum of $2,500 for the working of the project as described in the previous Article 86.


Mr. George E. Cuniff moved as an amendment: That the sum be $5,000 instead of $2,500.


The amendment was lost.


The original motion was carried.


Article 88. Voted : To raise and appropriate the sum of $3,500 for Miscellaneous expenses.


Article 39. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $250 for the working and re-location of Commercial Street. (See Article 38).


Article 40. Voted : That the subject matter of this article be indefinately postponed.


Article 41. Voted : That the subject matter of this article be indefinately postponed.


Article 42. Voted : That the further consideration of this article be indefinately postponed, yes 67, no 27.


Article 43. Voted : That no action be taken under this arti- cle.


Article 44. Voted: To accept the report of the Selectmen upon the laying out of a Street known as Wessagussett Road, be- tween North Street and Ocean Avenue. (See records of Roads Vol. 1, Page 210).


Article 45. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $300 for the working of Wessagussett Road (As above Article 44).


Article 46. Voted : That the subject matter of this article be indefinately postponed.


Article 47. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $900 forthe purpose of building a permanent sidewalk on the westerly side of Main Street, beginning at the corner of Colum- bian Street, said sum to be expended under the provisions of the Betterment Act.


Article 48. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $500 to construct a sidewalk on the westerly side of Main Street, from John Kohler's property southerly to the land of Joseph Ferbert.


Article 49. Voted : To raise and appropriate the sum of $750 to continue the construction of a permanent sidewalk on the west- erly side of Pond Street, said sum to be expended under the pro- visions of the Betterment Act.


Article 50. Voted: That the town accept from Fillip Ny- strom a conveyance to it of a triangular parcel of land at the cor- ner of Pearl and Norton Streets, same to be used for street pur- poses, and further that the thanks of the town be extended to Mr. Nystrom for his gift.

Article 51. Voted : That the town accept the report of the Selectmen upon the laying out and alterations at the junction of Pearl and Norton Streets. (See Records of Roads, Vol. 1, Page 213).


Article 52. Voted : That no action be taken under this arti- cle.


Article 53. Motion offered by Edward C. Barker, secretary of the Appropriation committee: That the name of Park Street, South Weymouth, be changed to Talbot Street in honor of Ralph Talbot who was killed in France, August 17, 1918, and that the sum of $25 be raised and appropriated for the purpose of erecting a suitable sign so designating the street.


Mr. Howard Joy moved as an amendment that the name be changed from Talbot Street to Ralph Talbot Street.


The amendment was so voted.


The motion as amended was so voted.


Article 54. Motion made by Edward C. Barker, secretary of Appropriation committee: That the junctions of the following streets be named as designated Squares in memory of Weymouth boys who gave up their lives overseas in the service of their coun- try in the World War.

Webb and Broad Streets-Thomas F. Donovan, Jr., Square.


North and Sea Streets-Arthur B. Hurley Square.


Main and Washington Streets-Harold B. Hyland Square. Madison and Broad Streets-William E. Johnson Square. Central and Union Streets-Parker B. Jones Square.


Hollis and Pond Streets-William R. Monteith Square. Main and Front Streets-Ernest B. Mowry Square. Pond and Thicket Streets-George T. Nesbit Square. Park and Pleasant Streets-Ralph Talbot Square.

Mrs. Mary E. Holbrook opposed this motion speaking as fol- lows: "I hope this motion will not prevail, now please understand that I am interested in Post 79 A. L. and every boy in it and we honor and respect their dead, but there is a Post in this town of over 50 years standing, Post 58, G. A. R. Originally this Post numbered 400 men; today it numbers 42 or 43. The average age of these men is over 80 years. No Parks, Streets or Squares have been named for those poor boys, and I think it only right that the younger generation wait before they change these old familiar names until the last man of Post 58, G. A. R. is gone.


The motion offered by Mr. Barker was put before the Town Meeting Members and was declared not a vote.


Article 55. Voted : That the subject matter of this article be indefinately postponed.


Article 56. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $200 for the purpose of erecting bound stones on accepted streets. Voted: On motion of Josiah B. Reed: That the thanks of the town be extended to Peter B. and Robert S. Bradley jointly and Peter B. Bradley for their magnificent gift to the town, of land, for the proposed street to Weymouth Great Hill Park, as

provided for under Article 86 of this annual warrant.


The following resolution was unanimously adopted.


"That the town vote to instruct the Selectmen to confer with the officials of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad and try to procure a flag station at Vinings crossing, West Street." The Moderator in open meeting appointed the following members of the Appropriation Committee for three years:


Ralph S. Wilder, Frederick Alden, Frank N. Clapp, Edward I. Loud, Herbert C. Bridges.


Voted: That the thanks of the town be extended to Hon. George L. Barnes, for the able and efficient manner in which he has conducted the business of the annual town meeting.

A meeting of the Board of Registrars of the town of Wey- mouth, was held at the town office on Monday evening, March 13, 1922 for the purpose of examing the records from the several pre- cincts, of the votes cast in said precincts for town officers and found that the following persons having the largest number of votes, were declared elected to the respective offices, to wit:
