REPORT OF THE TOWN ACCOUNTANT

East Weymouth, Mass., Jan. 1, 1923

To the Board of Selectmen and Overseers of the Poor:

Gentlemen :-

I submit herewith the twenty-first annual report of the ac- counting department showing the financial transactions of the several town departments.

By vote of the town the assessments for the maintenance of the Norfolk County Tuberculosis Hospital were paid under pro- test and acknowledgement to that effect has been received from the County Treasurer.

A thorough audit has been made the past year of the books of the tax Collectors and all amounts outstanding verified by mailing statements to the several tax payers having charges against them on the books. By my examination I am convinced that the tax collectors books and reports are correct.

Relative to the indebtedness of the town might

I state that in the last publication from the State Office it appears that out of the 75 towns in Massachusetts with a population of over 5,000 Weymouth ranks 56th in the matter of its indebtedness, having a percentage of only 1.2 of its valuation in its net debt. Only 19 other towns in this class have a lower percentage than Weymouth.

The books of the department are open to the inspection of any citizen desiring more detailed information than that appearing in this report and it is my belief that the criticism of various town activities would be unwarranted if the townspeople availed them- selves of the opportunity of procurring accurate information by closer relationship with the several departments of town govern- ment.

Respectfully,

EMERSON R. DIZER,

Town Accountant
