REPORT OF THE ELECTRIC LIGHTING COMMITTEE
WEYMOUTH, DEC. 31, 1935
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen:
The bill for lighting the streets for December, 1934 was $3.030.59.
To maintain that schedule and to install a few additional lights on the newly accepted streets, this committee asked, for the year 1935, $36,600.00, providing a monthly bill of $3,050.00.
Upon the recommendation of the Appropriation Committee the Town Meeting members voted an appropriation of $30,000.00 for the year. Four months had passed with a monthly bill of $3,030.59 before we could rearrange our schedule. It therefore became ne- cessary, in order to keep within our budget, to reduce our month- ly bill to $2,234.42, a reduction of about 25 per cent.
To meet this cut it was necessary to remove twenty one large lights and three hundred twenty three small lights. and to reduce the candle power of most of the remaining lights.
If the Town is satisfied with the present lighting it will be necessary to raise $26,813.04 to maintain that schedule. In view of the constant complaints since the lights were removed last April, and also in view of the fact that the Power Company will reduce the cost of lights so that the rates will average at least as low as the Edison rate, it is our recommendation that $31,471.52 be appropriated. This sum is sufficient to replace on April 1st a light in each socket where lamps were removed.
We think it only fair to light our newly accepted streets. This could not be done in 1935 and there are several more streets proposed for 1936. We recommend $450.00 for this purpose.
Also, it will probably be necessary to provide for the il- lumination of the new Fore River Bridge, but as yet the data is not available to give any definite figures.
Respectfully submitted,
JOSEPH KELLEY, Chairman ALFRED S. TIRRELL L. HENRY GODIN WALTER R. FIELD
J. HERBERT LIBBEY, Clerk

REPORT OF WEYMOUTH TOWN INFIRMARY
To the Honorable Board of Public Welfare,
Town of Weymouth, Mass.
Gentlemen:
Following is report of the Weymouth Town Infirmary, Essex Street, for the year 1935.
On December 31, 1935 residents comprised three women and six- teen men, and a number of transients were accommodated, as per the table below:
Number of residents Jan. 1, 1935. 16
Number admitted during year 9
Number discharged during year 6
Number of residents Dec. 31, 1935 19
As usual, the men who are able to work, have cooperated in the general work about the Home, and a very successful garden yielded a bountiful supply of summer vegetables and many were can- ned, also winter vegetables stores. At the time the ERA adminis- trator was looking for projects, I suggested that the cellar which was left open after tearing down the old barn, would make a good store house, and am happy to report that a fine building was erect- ed by the ERA, which is a permanent improvement and of general use to the Town. We were also fortunate in having the inside and out- side of the house refinished and the out-buildings painted, by the ERA department, so that the entire plant is in excellent condition.
Mental diversion consists, as usual, of reading matter and the radio still functions in the "Smoke House", the club quarters of the men. Christmas was observed with a special dinner and tree, each receiving a practical gift and remembrances made possible by the honorable Board, organizations and friends, to all of whom thanks is extended.
In closing my ninth report, Mrs. Berry joins me in thanks for all the co-operation we have received for the good of the Infirmary.
Respectfully submitted,
CLIFFORD A. BERRY, Supt.
