REPORT OF THE PLANNING BOARD
February 9, 1949
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
Town Hall
East Weymouth, Massachusetts
During the past year the Planning Board held ten regular monthly meetings and six public hearings for proposed changes in zoning laws and for new subdivisions.
At the request of the Board of Selectmen the board submitted recom- mendations for sidewalk construction. In making its recommendations the board followed its plan of constructing sidewalks where they will provide safety for children going to and from school, and to follow a definite plan of building for the center of each section of the town.
The board believes that this is the only way to construct sidewalks so as to benefit the greatest number of our citizens.
A joint meeting was held with the Board of Water Commissioners to clarify rules and regulations for new subdivisions.
The board now requires applicants for subdivisions to have water main construction approved by the Superintendent of the Water Department and drainage plans approved by the Superintendent of Streets prior to holding a public hearing for final approval of this subdivision.
We wish to thank the town officials and various department heads for the fine cooperation we have received during the past year.
Respectfully submitted,
HENRY R. SARGENT, Chairman
WALTER B. HEFFERNAN, Clerk

Gentlemen:
Herewith is submitted the forty-seventh annual report of the Account- ing Department.
The accounts of the town were examined by officials of the Division of Accounts of the Department of Corporations and Taxation during the month of December. Their analysis of the finances of the Town, together with my constant authentication of the accounts of the several officials, satisfy me that the finances of the town are very sound.
Information is available in my office relative to the detail of all finan- cial transactions.
