Gentlemen:
I herewith submit the annual report for the year ending December 31, 1961.
During the year, 884 wiring permits were issued.
Receipts for permit fees totaled $1,660.00.
With at least one inspection per permit and sometimes two or three per permit, inspections amounting to approximately 1,300 were made.
I wish to extend to the Board of Selectmen and to other Town officials, my thanks for all courtesies and assistance given this de- partment during the year, 1961.

RESOLUTIONS
In the passing of Joseph W. Ross, the Board of Selectmen, the Inspection Department and the Town have lost a faithful employee.
He was Inspector of Wires from 1947 to November, 1961. His experience, good judgment and counsel proved valuable and he won the respect of all with whom he was brought into contact.
Mindful of his association and work in behalf of the safety of per- sons and property, the Board of Selectmen gratefully record their ap- preciation by adopting the following:
BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Selectmen express their high appreciation of Joseph W. Ross' services and interest in whatever con- cerned the public and those matters that have promoted the safety of persons and property in the Town.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the records of the Board of Selectmen and a copy sent to his family and included in the Town Report.

Regular meetings of the committee were held at which Congres- sional Medal of Honor winner, William Seach was made Honorary Chief of Staff with Major John J. Morrissey, Jr., General Staff, USAR as Active Marshall.
The same order of procedure was voted to be followed as in 1960 in regard to the decoration of graves in cemeteries. It was voted to allow all units of each organization to march together in the line of march. Memorial Sunday services were held on Sunday, May 28, 1961 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic church, South Weymouth.
Graves Registration Officer William Connell was of immense help in assisting the committee in locating graves and also keeping stock of flags. His information also helped in ordering flowers and wreaths.
All graves were decorated with flags and flowers. A Memorial wreath was placed in the name of the Town at the Ralph Talbot tablet in the State House. Lieutenant Commander Richard S. Rutkowski, U. S. Naval Reserve, Assistant to the Commanding Officer, U. S. Naval Air Station, South Weymouth gave the address of the day during the exercises at the Civic Center.
The committee is most appreciative of the assistance given by the Police Dept., the Fire Dept., Board of Public Works, School Dept. and the Board of Selectmen. The committee would like to recommend that in the future more programs should be printed and given dis- tribution throughout the town at least two weeks before Memorial Day.

REPORT OF THE ELECTRIC LIGHTING COMMITTEE

Gentlemen:
The Committee has contracted to light the Weymouth streets, as .. usual, with the Massachusetts Electric Company.
During the year there has been eighty new lights installed in- cluding sixty-one 100 candle power, seven 3300 mercury vapor, eight 6800 mercury vapor and four 2100 mercury vapor. At present, there 3,018 lights of various sizes in the Town at a cost of $8,274.40 per month.
This year, many lights have been increased in size. There has been an increase of 722,450 lumens (units of light) in 1961, with a decrease of cost per 1000 lumens from $13.76 to $13.05.
Due to replacement and new construction, the 1961 budget was exceeded by $1,524.15 which fas made available to us by the Ap -. propriation Committee 'in November of this year.
We are asking for 1962, a budget of $107,240.00.

THE COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS STATE RECLAMATION BOARD SOUTH SHORE MOSQUITO CONTROL PROJECT
To the Citizens of Weymouth:
Submitted herewith is the report of the South Shore Mosquito Control Project of its activities in the Town of Weymouth for the year ending December 31, 1961.
The Town of Weymouth appropriated $8500 for mosquito control in 1961. This money was used for mosquito control in the Town of Weymouth by the South Shore Mosquito Control Project, a cooperative effort embracing the City of Quincy and Towns of Braintree, Cohasset, Duxbury, Hingham, Hull, Marshfield, Norwell, Scituate and Weymouth. In addition, the project worked under contract for the U. S. Naval Ammunition Depot.
