TOWN CLERK'S REPORT
Parents, be sure to record the birth of your child with given name in full.
READ THE LAW !
"Parents, within forty days after the birth of a child, and every householder, with forty days after a birth in his house, shall cause notice thereof to be given to the clerk of the town where such a child is born."-General Laws, Chapter 46, Section 6.
SOME REASONS WHY BIRTHS SHOULD BE RECORDED
To establish identity.
To prove nationality.
To prove legitimacy.
To show when the child has a right to enter school.
To show when the child has the right to seek employ- ment under the child labor laws.
To establish the right of inheritance of property.
To establish liability to military duty, as well as exemption therefrom.
To establish the right to vote.
To qualify to hold title to, and to buy and sell real estate.
To prove the age at which the marriage contract may be entered into.
To establish the right to hold public office.
To make possible statistical studies of the health conditions.
Your co-operation to the end that all births may be properly recorded will be greatly appreciated.
Blanks for returns of births will be furnished upon application to parents, householders, physicians, and registered medical offices as provided in Chapter 46, Section 15, General Laws.
Attest : WILLIAM M. WADE, Town Clerk.

REPORT OF THE WATER COMMISSIONERS
REPORT OF THE WATER COMMISSIONERS
To the Voters of Scituate :
It is the pleasure of the Board of Water Commis- sioners to present the following report for 1960.
The new well on Water Department property off Chief Justice Cushing Highway has been tied into the water system and has proven to be of great value by help- ing to meet the ever increasing demand. The Commis- sioners feel that first we should have the supply; second, the distribution; and third, storage. These will automat- ically take care of the demand.
Supply : The money in our budget each year for ex- ploration and drilling for water is a vital necessity. With- out it the demand would far exceed the supply we now have.
Distribution : In cooperation with the Advisory Board the establishment of a long range program for replacement of small and obsolete mains, the distribution system should be adequate to take care of the town with all its growing pains. All developments and subdivisions are processed through this department to make sure all mains and serv- ices are up to specifications, and that hydrants are lo- cated to give adequate fire protection.
Storage: Our present storage capacity is 1,525,000 gallons. This storage under normal conditions would be enough to maintain water supply and pressure, but during warm weather the demand for water is larger than our pumps can produce. Additional storage is part of our long range planning and will be in the 1962 budget for your consideration.
We were sorry to have one of our employees, Clar- ence Clapp, retire from the Department due to disability. We do, however, wish him good health and happy fishing.
To all other departments and personnel we say thank- you for the past year of fine cooperation, especially to the Highway Department for their fine work in repairing
