ANNUAL REPORT
OF THE
Board of Selectmen
OF THE
Town of Plymouth MASSACHUSETTS
1890.
FOR THE YEAR ENDING DECEMBER 31
1961
-308-
ANNUAL REPORT OF THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN
The Selectmen held numerous hearings on local mat- ters such as street layouts, liquor violations, pole loca- tions, etc., and we believe each instance was handled in the best interest of the town.
The program of street surfacing has continued at a good rate of speed and with continued appropriations from the town, the project will continue to be a success. A look at other towns in the area or State will find Plymouth second to none when you consider the area and mileage we are concerned with.
The project of having our Highway Department have larger and heavier equipment will be completed if our requests are voted at the 1962 town meeting. We are asking for our last small truck to be traded for a heavier truck, another automatic sand spreader, a new compres- sor and another snow loader. If these requests or the majority are voted, we indeed will be in a very good position.
Our shore protection projects are still lagging some- what and although very little information is available, we believe that this is due to the investigations going on and as soon as these problems are settled, we should see the projects begin to materialize.
The financial status of the Town as relates to our borrowing capacity is good and our Excess and Deficiency and Free Cash status are also in excellent standing.
-309-
The Board has worked hard in its efforts to dis- charge the obligations of the Board and is appreciative of the cooperation given by other departments.
Respectfully submitted,
FRANCIS P. SHEA, Chairman JAMES T. FRAZIER SUMNER A. CHAPMAN, JR.
WILLIAM H. BARRETT GEORGE E. RANDALL
TOWN FOREST COMMITTEE
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen:
During 1961, 5,500 seedlings were planted where trees were lost. Trees lost during the last hurricane were salvaged for lumber and sold to a sawmill, for which $128.48 was received and turned over to the Town Clerk.
All fire lanes were harrowed and trimmed out and brush was burned.
5,000 seedlings were bought in the fall for spring planting.
Respectfully submitted,
DANIEL L. HOLMES JAMES A. WHITE, Secretary HAROLD G. ROBERTS
Town Forest Committee

REPORT OF COMMITTEE ON INLAND FISHERIES
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen Plymouth, Massachusetts
Gentlemen :
Your committee wishes to report that the appropria- tion for the year 1961 was expended for 7 and 8 inch brook trout which were liberated in Little Pond and Lout Pond.
Efforts to obtain white perch and yellow perch were unsuccessful this year.
Long Pond, Fresh Pond, Little Pond, and Lout Pond were stocked with trout by the Division of Fisheries and Game Department.
We request that the sum of three hundred and five dollars ($305.00) be appropriated for our use in 1962.
Respectfully,
DONALD O. TRACY, Chairman CHARLES T. SEIFERT MARTIN B. PERSON, JR.
