REPORT OF THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE
In the period since the last Town Report, many significant events have taken place within the Wayland School System. Foremost of these are the following :
(1) The addition of the new high school in the school plant, mak- ing possible an effective continuation and expansion of the small, medium, and large group instruction program.
(2) The creation of the independent junior high school incorporat- ing grades 6, 7, and 8, resulting in a much improved instructional oppor- tunity for this age group.
(3) The expansion of the team teaching program throughout the school system which utilizes the best talents of the professional staff in the respective instructional areas.
(4) The continued application of the Fund for the Advancement of Education grant to program and curriculum development aimed at better preparation of our students.
The above events, coupled with the usual growth in school popula- tion, have made this past year an exceptional period both for the town and the School Committee. As we review, we can feel proud that the publicity accompanying our progress has been justly deserved. This is possible only because of the continued support of the Town in establish- ing a top-notch school system in Wayland.
The past year has been successful only through the cooperative efforts of many people, in and out of our school system. The Committee, at this time, would like to express its sincere thanks to our teachers, our administration, the several Town Boards, the citizens of Wayland, and to all who have contributed in making our biggest year our best year to date.
Respectfully submitted,
