To the Honorable Board of Selectmen and
Citizens of the Town of Mendon:
I hereby submit to you the following report for the year 1962.

Dog licenses are due and payable on or before March 31, 1963: Failure to do so, after being duly notified, the delin- quent owner of a dog can be summoned into court and fined the sum of $15.00, according to law.
All dogs, according to law, must be collared and tagged. Any dog found to be without same can be picked up by the dog officer as a stray dog and taken to the pound. When and if the owner is learned, he can be assessed any charges resulting from this dog being picked up. The fee for same as established by law is $1.50 per day. Stray dogs, according to law, have to be confined for a period of 10 days, unless claimed earlier by their rightful owner.
Any dog, three months old and over, must be licensed. In the case of a dog having been spayed, the spaying certificate must be presented when application for a license is made.

To the Honorable Board of Selectmen:
The Fire Department answered 44 alarms during the year 1962 with an estimated damage of $2,500.00.

The annual Night Before The Fourth Celebration was held with prizes being awarded and refreshments served to all who attended.
During the Christmas season the Fire Station and the tree on Founders Park were decorated by the firemen.
The upstairs of the fire station has been painted and a new office added.
The Plectron Alerting System has been purchased and installed. At the present time there are four units in the out- lying firemen's homes.

REPORT OF FOREST FIRE WARDEN
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen:
The Forest Fire Department answered 39 calls during the year 1962. Forest Fires burned approximately 35 acres; brush and grass fires approximately 10 acres.
With the installation of a two-way radio in our local fire tower, we will have more and better coverage during the for- est fire season.
There were 768 permits issued to burn with only two out of control. Persons burning without permits, 24.
