The Overseers of the Poor visited the Almshouse, Jan. I, 1906 and took an inventory of all the personal pro- perty and have submitted the foregoing report. We think we have placed a very fair valuation on the property although it is much less than other years, which accounts for the seeming large cost to the Town of supporting the Almshouse.

We wish to make an explanation in regard to bills paid the Commonwealth for Eleanor J. Packard, Agnes Ness and Bangs K. Howes. In June, 1905, we received a letter from the Attorney General demanding payment for same or legal steps would be taken to collect. We looked up the case of Eleanor J. Packard and found she was an acknowledged case against this town in 1890 and was ren- dered aid by this town from Jan. 1, 1894, to Jan. I, 1901, while an inmate of the Worcester Insane Asylum, making it obligatory on us to pay the bill. The bill of Agnes Ness, from Nov. 1, 1898, to March 31, 1899, and the bill of Bangs K. Howes from July 26, 1901, to Nov. 27, 1901, we found no reason whatever for not paying, as they each had a settlement in this town. These two bills were due on account of Taunton Insane Asylum. This large bill of $676.93 accounts for the overdraw of the appropriation.

AUDITOR'S REPORT.
In accordance with provisions of Chapter 25, Section 79, of the Revised Laws of the Commonwealth of Massa- chusetts, I have carefully examined the books and accounts of the various Town Officers charged with the receipt and disbursement of money. The books of the Selectmen show that orders upon the Treasurer amounting to $20, 193.32 have been drawn by them during the year, and vouchers to this amount have been found on file. The books of the Treasurer show the payment of orders to the same amounts. The various accounts of the Treasurer have been examined and approved. The balance of cash reported in the treasury was found to be on hand or on deposit in the Plymouth County Safe Deposit and Trust Company, $3,699.74.
Much time has been devoted to the examination of the accounts of the Collector. The numerous entries made upon his cash books during the year have been care- fully compared item by item with those made in the tax lists. No error or omissions were found.
There have been a few tax abatements drawn by the Assessors. I have carefully checked each tax so abated by the abatement slip and approved by the same.
