The polls were opened at 2 o'clock P. M. by Warden William W. Noyes.
Ballots were cast for Congressman to fill vacancy caused by the death of Congressman Charles Gifford.
The candidates were Jacinto F. Diniz of New Bedford, Dem- ocrat and Donald W. Nicholson of Wareham, Republican.
At the close of the polls the register recorded 181 ballots cast.

Special Town Meeting called to order by Moderator, E. M. Roberts. The Town Clerk, H. E. Bryant read the warrant after which Article 1 was read and the following action taken.

ARTICLE 1.
To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate by transfer from available funds, or otherwise, a sum of money for the purpose of increasing the fire insurance on buildings owned by the town; or take any action relative thereto.
Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of one thousand five hundred thirty-four ($1,534.00) dollars for the purpose of increasing the fire insurance on buildings owned by the town, and to meet said appropriation that the sum of one thousand five hundred thirty-four ($1,534.00) dollars be transferred from the School Department Account to the Insurance Account.

ARTICLE 2.
To see if the town will vote to authorize the Water Commis- sioners for the purpose of furnishing the inhabitants of the town with an increased supply of pure water for domestic and other uses, to acquire by purchase or exercise of the right of eminent domain the interests respectively specified in each of the several parcels of land hereinafter described, to wit:
First Parcel. In fee simple a certain parcel of land contain- ing about forty thousand square feet, more or less, situated south- erly from and in part immediately adjacent to the school house lot on the southwesterly and westerly side of Sunset Avenue, in West Bridgewater, substantially bounded and described as follows, to wit: Commencing at a stake set in the ground in the souther- ly line of said school house lot at or near the angle in a stone wall; thence running in an easterly by southeasterly direction partly in the line of said school house lot two hundred twenty-five (225) feet, more or less, to a stake; thence turning and running in a southerly by southwesterly direction two hundred (200)

feet, more or less, to a stake; thence turning and running in a generally northerly direction by the line of said stone wall two hundred (200) feet, more or less, to the point of beginning;
Second Parcel. In fee simple a certain parcel of land con- taining about seven and one half acres situated northwesterly from Matfield Street and near the northerly end of Cyr Street, as presently laid out, in West Bridgewater, and substantially bounded and described as follows, to wit: Commencing at a stake set in the ground at or near the northerly corner of land now or formerly owned by John Mahoney and at or near the westerly side line of said Cyr Street; thence running southwest- erly six hundred (600) feet, more or less, to a stake; thence turn- ing and running northwesterly five hundred (500) feet more or less, to a stake in the southeasterly side line of a cart road; thence turning and running in a generally northeasterly direction by several courses along the southeasterly side line of said cart road six hundred (600) feet, more or less, to a stake: thence turning and running in a generally southeasterly direction by several dif- ferent courses along the southwesterly side line of said cart road five hundred (500) feet, more or less, to the point of beginning together with all rights and easements in said cart road which may be necessary, advisable, or convenient in connection with the development, use and maintenance by the Town of the above described land for municipal water supply purposes;
Third Parcel. An easement for laying and maintaining water pipes and mains in a certain parcel of land situated in West Bridgewater, and substantially bounded and described as follows, to wit: Commencing at a stake set in the ground at the easterly end of Maolis Avenue as presently laid out; thence running in gen- erally northeasterly direction eighteen hundred (1800) feet, more or less, to a stake located in the southwesterly side line of Copeland Street at a point at or near its intersection with the westerly property line of Pine Hill Cemetery; thence turning and running

The Water Commissioners are hereby authorized, after the necessary land and easements have been secured, to do all things that may be necessary to accomplish the purpose of this article.

Howard Street from West Center Street to North Main Street;
Spring Street from Howard Street to North Elm Street;
Howard Street and South Street from West Center Street across River to Bryant Street;
South Elm Street from Elm Square across Meadow Brook to Lincoln Street;

River Street from Charles Street to South Elm Street;
Grant Street from North Elm Street to Copeland Street;
Matfield Street and Thayer Avenue from Belmont Street to the Town Line;
West Center Street from Elm Square west; or take any action relative thereto.
Voted: To raise and appropriate one hundred thousand ($100,000.00) dollars for the purpose of installing water mains of not less than six inches but not more than sixteen inches in dia- meter in the following streets, or any of them:

This resignation was accepted, with regret, by the remaining members of the Board of Selectmen; but because of an advanced promotion Mr. Frellick was required to move to Brockton.
