Article 23. To see if the Town will make an appropria- tion or appropriations to pay the claims or charges of Symmes Arlington Hospital including such claims and charges for aid, relief or care furnished prior to January 1, 1945, to persons falling into distress and standing in need of immediate relief; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended; or take any action relating thereto.


Article 24. To see if the Town will appropriate a sum or sums of money to be expended under the direction of the Selectmen in the performance of their duties set forth under the Commonwealth Emergency Defense Act of 1941, as amend- ed or extended, or under any Federal or State legislation now in effect or hereafter enacted, or under any order of the armed services of the United States of America, and generally for the preservation of health or morale of the citizens, the pro- tection of persons and property, and for any purpose incidental to civilian welfare in the present national emergency and to provide such means as may be necessary therefor; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended; or take any action relating thereto.


Article 25. To see if the Town will vote to ratify, ap- prove and confirm the action of the Board of Selectmen, in accepting the gift of the "Honor Roll of the Town of Arling- ton," now located on town property in the center of Arlington, from the citizens of the town through the Honor Roll Com- mittee; appropriate a sum of money to be expended by or under the said Board of Selectmen for any enlargement, main- tenance or other matter necessarily connected therewith; de- termine in what manner the money shall be raised; or take any action relating thereto.


Article 26. To see if the town will authorize the Select- men to appoint a committee to procure and consider plans and estimated costs for a Memorial Building to be erected by the town in grateful recognition of the sacrifices made by those

who gave their lives and services in their country's cause in the World Wars; said committee to investigate and make rec- ommendations for a suitable site for such building and to re- port at the next special town meeting, if any, but not later than the Annual Town Meeting of 1946; appropriate a sum of money for the use of said committee, determine in what man- ner the money shall be raised; or take any action relating thereto.


Article 27. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of $100,000.00, $50,000.00 to be raised from general taxes and $50,000.00 to be taken from unexpended money in the treasury and set aside this money to be applied at a later date to defray a portion of the cost of erecting a suitable memorial in grate- ful recognition of the sacrifices made by those who gave their lives and services in their country's cause in the World Wars, or take any other action in relation thereto.

Article 28. To see if the Town will vote to appoint a committee to investigate, consider and recommend alterations, additions or other changes to the Robbins Memorial Town Hall, said committee to report at the next special. town meeting, if any, but not later than the Annual Town Meeting of 1946; appropriate a sum of money for the use of said committee; de- termine in what manner the money shall be raised; or take any action relating thereto.


Article 29. To see if the Town will vote to accept the gift of certain lands located within the town from the Town of Belmont; determine the conditions of such acceptance; or take any action relating thereto.


Article 30. To see if the Town will vote to ratify, ap- prove and confirm the action of the Board of Selectmen in the sale and delivery by the Selectmen of two (2) 1942 Aero Two- door Chevrolet Sedans and one (1) 1942 Special DeLuxe Four- door Chevrolet Sedan, owned by the town and in use by the Police Department, all in connection with the purchase of three (3) new Special DeLuxe Chevrolet Town Sedans, fully

conditioned under Office of Price Administration regulations, for the use of the Police Department; or take any action relat- ing thereto.


Article 31. To see if the town will appropriate a sum or sums of money to be expended under the direction of the Board of Selectmen, for the purpose of making suitable alter- ations, additions or other reconstruction work in connection with the present Police Headquarters Building; determine in what manner the money shall be raised; or take any action re- lating thereto.


Article 32. To see if the Town will acquire by purchase, eminent domain or otherwise for the purposes of the Police Department, or for any other lawful purpose, all or any portion of the land within the town, hereinafter described, (with or without the buildings thereon) any interests or easements therein, and any rights or easements of way or otherwise as appurtenant thereto, and subject to or with any reservations of any rights or easements therein; make an appropriation therefor ; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended; or take any action relating to all or any of the foregoing.

Beginning at a point on the southeasterly side line of Central Street, at land now of formerly of the Town of Arlington, said point being 190.36 feet northeasterly of the point of intersection of said southeasterly side line of Central Street, and the northeasterly side line of Mass. Avenue, thence northeasterly on said southeasterly side line of Central Street, a distance of 66.88 feet to a point on said southeasterly side line of Central Street, at the southwesterly boundry line of the premises numbered 17 Central Street, thence southeasterly by said premises numbered 17 Cen- tral Street, a distance of 117.08 feet to land of the United States of America, thence southwesterly by said land of the United States of America, a distance of 65.16 feet to land of the Town of Arlington, thence northwesterly by said land of the Town of Arlington, a distance of 116.79 feet to the point of beginning and containing 7623 square feet as shown on Block Plan No. 51 on file in the office of the Town Engineer, Arlington, Mass., and being the same premises referred to in a deed on file at the Registry of Deeds, E. To see if the Town will acquire by purchase, eminent domain or otherwise for the purposes of the Fire De- partment, or for any other lawful purpose, all or any portion of the land (with or without the buildings thereon) within the town, hereinafter described, any interest or easements therein and any rights or easements of way or otherwise as appurtenant thereto and subject to or with any reservations of any rights or easements therein; make an appropriation of money for such acquisition; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended; or take any action relat- ing to all or any of the foregoing.


Said land is bounded and described as follows:


Beginning at a point on the division line between land of the Town of Arlington (known as the Highland Fire Station Lot) and a lot of land with buildings thereon now numbered 1003 Mass. Ave., said point being 97.00 feet northeasterly of the northeasterly side line of Mass. Ave., thence northeasterly by said land of the Town of Arlington a distance of 86 feet to land now or formerly owned by Mary E. Kelly et al, thence southeasterly about 80 feet to an angle point, thence southwesterly a distance of 90 feet more or less to a point on the division line between land now or formerly of Alice M. Kyne and said lot with buildings there- on now numbered 1003 Mass. Ave., said point being 97.00 feet north- easterly of the northeasterly side line of Mass. Ave., thence northwesterly through said lot now numbered 1003 Mass. Article 35. To see if the Town will make an appropria- tion for the use of the "Committee on Advanced Programming and Budgeting"; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended; or take any action relating thereto.

Article 36. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate, or transfer from available funds in the treasury, a sum of money for the purchase of war bonds or other bonds that are legal investments for savings banks, in order to estab- lish a postwar rehabilitation fund, in accordance with the pro- visions of Chapter 5, Acts of 1943; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended; or take any action relating thereto.


Article 37. To see if the Town will vote to appoint a Committee to investigate, procure and consider plans and spec- ifications, and to make recommendations for a suitable site, for the construction of a Building or Buildings to be used as a Reclamation Plant or for the disposal of rubbish and waste materials or for any municipal purpose or purposes ; said Com- mittee to report at the next Special Town Meeting, if any, but not later than the Annual Town Meeting of 1946; appropriate a sum of money for the use of said Committee; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended; or take any action relating thereto.
