* Nahum Sargeant, a graduate of Dartmouth College, 1784, and a brother of Rev. Samuel Sargeant, of Woburn, died while on a visit at Chelsea, Mass., Oct. 7, 1792, aged thirty-four years. He was minister at Reading, Vt., from 1787 to time of death. He preached in Woburn occasionally, and his first appearance here as a preacher was on Sunday, Oct. 31, 1784, when, in the words of Esquire Samuel Thompson's memoranda, " Mr. Sargeant's brother preached." He also preached on June 5, 1785, when he was described by the above authority as " Mr. Sargeant, the younger." Mention is made of his preaching for his brother, in Woburn, in 1786, 1787, 1789, and 1791. In September, 1786, Mr. Samnel Sargeant was sick with a fever, and on Sept. 3 there was on that account " no preaching "; but on other Sab- baths of that month, and in October, Mr. Nahum Sargeant preached for him. In the latter part of November, 1787, the Rev. Samuel Sargeant was absent on a journey to assist in the ordination of his brother Nahum at Reading, Vt., and there preached the sermon for the day. This sermon was published and a copy is preserved in the Woburn l'ublic Library. Mr. Nahum Sargeant died of the small-pox, in October, 1792, his death being noted in S. Thompson's lists. At the time of his death the disease of small-pox was prevalent in this vicinity. The copy of the above sermon was originally the property of the Rev. Mr. Mar- rett. The following is its title : " A sermon delivered at the introduction of the Rev. Nahum Sargeant to the pastoral care of the church and congregation in Reading [Vermont], Nov. 23, 1787; by his brother Samuel Sargeant, A. M., pastor of the First Church In Woburn. - Windsor; printed by Hough and Spooner, MDCCLXXXVIII." Text, Isaiah lii. 7; (22 pp.) - W. R. CUTTER.
