Jonathan Tyng, Esquire, - colonel, - was born Dec. 15, 1642, son of Col. Edward Tyng, of Boston (died in Dunstable, 1681). He married Sarah, daughter of Hezekiah Usher; died 1713 (epitaph 47). Judith, his widow, died 1736 (epitaph 104). Ilis father's family was one of the most promi- nent families in Massachusetts. He was colonel of the Second Regiment of foot and a justice of the court, was one of Sir Edmund Andros's Council, 1687, a magistrate, and a man of influence. Col. Tyng is men- tioned in Sewall's " History of Woburn," pp 83, 142, 227. Arms. Argent, on abend cotised sable, three martlets, gold. (Vide " Gore Roll of Arms," Whitmore's Elements of Heraldry, 92.)

Hannah (Cntter) Brooks, wife of John Brooks, son of Jabez (epitaph 128) and Hephzibah (Cutter) Brooks (epitaph 124), daughter of Deacon John and Lydia (Harrington) Cutter, of Cambridge, born June 14, 1715. ( Vide History Cutter Family of New England, 45.)
(120.) " Here lyes the Remains of M'rs Elizabeth Cotton, Daughter of the Rev'd Roland Cotton late of Sandwich Dec'd; Who Died a VIRGIN October 12'th 1742, Etatis 46.
" If a Virgin Marry She hath not Sinned Nevertheless Such shall have trouble in the Flesh But He that giveth her not in Marriage doth better, She is happier if She so Abide."
Elizabeth Cotton, daughter of Rev. Roland Cotton, Sandwich, and Elizabeth (Saltonstall-Dennison) Cotton, sister of Rev. Josiah Cotton, pastor of the Third Church in Woburn from 1747 to 1756, and after- wards minister at Sandown, N. H .; also sister of Col. Roland Cotton, a once prominent citizen of Woburn, died at the house of the latter in Woburn, unmarried, as her singular epitaph pointedly intimates. She was of " good repute " as " vertuous, usefull & obliging in her Day," etc. Her slab lies upon the only table monument in the yard. Her epitaph is recorded in Alden's "Collections," Vol. I., No. 235, p. 225. ( Vide Sewall's Woburn, pp. 339, 340; also Bond's Watertown Genealogies, 922, 923.) (See Introduction, p. 4 *. ) The table monument is the Salton- stall tomb and stone.

Deacon Joseph Hartwell, son of John and Priscilla (Wright) Hartwell, of Concord, born Jan. 24, 1680-81, married Ruhamah Cutter (epitaph 182). He lived at the head of Mystic Pond (then in Charlestown), now in Arling- ton. From 1732 to 1743, he paid church rates in Woburn; was chosen deacon of Woburn Church, 1736. A large cedar-tree has taken root in his grave. ( Vide History Cutter Family of New England, 37.)

Ensign Samuel Wyman, born Feb. 7, 1689-90, son of Jacob and Eliza- beth (Richardson) Wyman (Sewall's History, 653) ; married Susanna Simonds (epitaph 161) ; no marriage record; supposed to be no other than the daughter of James and Susanna (Blogget) Simonds, born May 2, 1689.
