(Compare Symmes's Memorial and Sewall's Woburn, 414, 425, 426, 428, 438, 439, 440, 442, 569-581.) Joseph Brown and Ruth Richardson, both of Woburn, were married by Rev. John Marrett, Oct. 24, 1776. Ruth Brown, his wife, was admitted member of the Woburn Church, Oct. 29, 1797. Joseph Brown, son of Joseph Brown, late of Bedford, Mass. (with consent of Stephen Mead, of Bedford, his guardian), apprenticed himself to Josiah Richardson, of Woburn, blacksmith, and to Mary, his wife, to learn the trade of blacksmith, March 3, 1774. The Elijah Leathe lot of papers con- tains the original indenture.

Elizabeth Young, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Johnson) Young. was born Oct. 31, 1772. William Young and Elizabeth Johnson, both of Woburn, were married June 8, 1769.
Major Francis Johnson married Mehitable Parker, of Woburn, Nov. 8, 1810.

Wheeler was a leading man of Temple, N. 11., where, in 1781, he was one of the building committee of a new meeting-house; and May 31, 1784, married Hephzibah, daughter of Gen. William Foster was a housewright. He died in 1824, leaving no widow, no father. nor children, and his mother, llannah Russell, declined admin- istration on his estate, which was in-olvent. He is said to have built what is now known as the Dr. Graves house, ou Pleasant Street. It is not known who his wife was.

D. 1815 in the 32d year of her age, also of three children who died at nearly the same time their mother, Elizabeth, an infant of 2 days died Oct. 19; Ruth, aged 3 years & 4 months died Oct. 27. Henry died Nov. 14, aged 20 months."
Betsey (White) Chickering, daughter of Deacon John White of Con- cord, and first wife of Rev Joseph Chickering (H. U. 1799), a native of Dedham, and the pastor of the First Church, Woburn, from 1804 to 1821. He died in Phillipston, Mass., Jan. 27, 1844, aged 63. Parents of the well- known temperance advocate and clergyman, the late Rev. John White Chickering, D. D., a native of Woburn, born March 19, 1808. His brother, Joseph Chickering, was born in Woburn, Jan. 9, 1810. (Records.) Betsey Chickering (Mrs. Rev. J.) admitted to First Church, Woburn, May 22, 1806. Sarah A. Chickering (Mrs. Rev. Joseph), second wife, admitted First Church, Woburn, Sept. 21, 1817. His second wife was Sarah Abbott Holt, of Albany, Me. ( Vide Sewall's History Woburn, 461, etc.)

Mary Carter, maiden lady, was daughter of Thomas and Hannah Carter ; born Feb. 5, 1733. Dinah, servant to Mary Carter, died Jan. 5, 1803 (old age). Mary Carter was sister of Mrs. Hannah Brewster (epitaph 13), and a lineal descendant of the Rev. Thomas Carter, first minister of Woburn; lived in and owned the home place of her ancestors, now the estate of the late Mrs. Littlefield, near Woburn Common.

She was the third wife of Esquire Thompson, and married Oct. 22, 1789; no chil- dren; was widow of Jesse Wyman; married May 1, 1760. She was the daughter of Rev. Josiah Kendall, born March 30, 1789; son of Obadiah (epitaph 288) and Sarah (Johnson) Kendall (epitaph 313) ; married Mary W. Russell (epitaph 94).
(100.) " Erected in memory of Mr. John Gardner, of Charlestown, who died Jan. 1, 1820, Æt. 75."
" John Gardner, of Charlestown, member of the Woburn Church." (Town Records ) John Gardner, son of Henry and Lucy; born in Wo- burn, March 3, 1744. His wife was Patience Wyman; married 1770; died 1824 (epitaph 133). His mother was Lucy Fowle. (Compare Wyman's Charlestown, 399, 400.)

" Short, yet how pleasing, was her visit here ; She's now removed to grace a nobler sphere, * * * % There remaineth, therefore, a rest for the people of God."
Phebe Richardson, née Tay, first wife of Junius Richardson, was married April 18, 1793.

(103.) " Erected in Memory of Mary Ann Oystead, Dau. of Capt. John & Mrs. Lucy Oystead, who died June 18, 1820, Aged 1 yr & 2 mos.
" Friends, nor physicians, could not save This mortal body from the Grave ; Nor can the grave confine it here, When Christ, my Saviour, shall appear."
Mary Ann Oystead (birth not on Woburn Record), daughter of Capt. John and Lucy (Tay) Oystead. "John Oystead, of Boston, and Lucy Tay, of Woburn," were married July 1, 1806. Mrs. Lucy Oystead married, Dec. 30, 1822, Robert Eames. (See epitaph 138.)
(104.) " Erected in memory of Mrs. Hannah Converse, wife of Mr. Jacob Converse, died suddenly, July 13, 1820, ÆEt. 41.
" Therefore, be ye also ready. for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of man cometh."
Hannah Converse, wife of Jacob, née Hannah Bryant, is believed to have been born in Ipswich. Her brother, Deacon Aaron Bryant, lived and died in Wakefield. They had eight children.
('05.) " Sacred to the memory of Samuel Thompson, Esq., who died Aug. 17. 1820, Æt LXXXIX.
" And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace."
Samuel Thompson, Esq., son of Samuel and Ruth (Wright) Thompson, born Oct. 30, 1731; married (1) Abigail Tidd, May 15, 1753. She died Sept. 2, 1768, aged 35. (See epitaph 212, First Yard.) (2) Lydia Jones, of Concord, Feb. 26, 1770; she died Oct. 19 1788 (epitaph First Yard). aged 54. (3) Widow Esther Wyman, Oct. 22, 1789, died Aug. 5, 1818, aged 80 years (epitaph 95). He was an esquire and deacon, a very prominent citizen.
(106.) " Sacred to the memory of Mrs Abigail Recd, wife of Mr. Daniel Reed, who died Oct. 15, 1820, Æt. 87."
Abigail Reed, wife of Daniel Reed (epitaph 65). (See Wyman's Charlestown, 803, and Miss Carleton's Reeds and Wins, pp. 10, 11.) Daniel Reed and Abigail Simonds, daughter of Lieut. James and Mary (Fowle) Simonds, were married March 9, 1754.

Major Abijih Thompson, son of Abijah (epitaph 110) and Abigail (Wyman ) Thompson, second wife, born Oct. 24, 1768, and died as above. He married (1) Lydia Mead. 1790 (epitaph 33) ; (?) Widow Lydia Brad- ford, March 10 1809 (epitaph 280); father of the late Gen. Abijah Thomp- son, of Woburn.
(108.) " Sacred to the Memory of Mrs. Mary Richardson, Relict of Deacon Juduthun Richardson, who died Nov. 4th 1820, Aged 80 Years."
