In 1848. Gen. Lewis L'ass received the nomination for President, and Gen. William O. Butler for Vice President, on what was known as the Democratic- Republican ticket. John S. Barry. Lor- enzo M. Mason, Thomas Fitzgerald, Horace C. Thurber. and W. T. Howell, were nominated as Pres- idential Electors on the same ticket. In support of those nominations, the St. Clair County Demo- cratic Association was formed September 7, 1818. The meeting was held at St. Clair. with Henry Rix, temporary President, and John Devine, Secretary. The election of officers resulted as follows: Joseph T. Copeland, President; JJ. B.
