SCHOOL REPORT

Again the school year has come to a close and, according to a time-honored custom the School Board submit the following annual report ot the condition and progress of our schools.

The Durgin school house was completely renovated and new furniture added, making it one of our best school buildings.

36

TOWN OF SANDWICH

The Fellows school house was newly shingled and some other repairs made but later it was found inexpedient to have a school there as the few remaining scholars could be transported to the Center at a less cost and with greater satisfaction to the interested parties.

Other pupils having lately moved into the district, it will probably be necessary to have a school there the coming term.

All our school houses are in excellent condition, except that new furniture is needed in the East Sandwich and No. Sand- wich school houses.

We suggest that the same amount of money for repairs be raised as last year, in order that this may be done, then our school buildings will all be in excellent condition and a much smaller appropriation each year will keep them in good repair.

We have endeavored to secure the best teachers possible and have been remarkably successful as a whole. It has been necessary to raise the pay of some of them in order to retain their services, but it has seemed wise to do so rather than to allow them to leave and fill their places with teachers of less ability and experience.

The school at Whiteface was closed a few weeks early on account of a scarlet fever scare.

We would again call attention to the fact that far too few of our parents take pains to visit our schools, but 33 in the entire town doing so during the whole year.

The School Board made 63 official visits.

Thanking the town as a whole for their help in making the schools what they are we submit this report.

ALBERT B. HOAG,

JOHN S. QUIMBY,

JOHN J. WEED,

School Board.
