The number of scholars enrolled by register, 84

Number under six years of age, 2

Number between six and sixteen, 81

Number over sixteen,

Three schools have been maintained with three terms each.

The attendance in all the schools was not as good in the fall and winter terms as in previous terms, being due to prevalence of whooping cough; especially in the village schools.

The West school was taught by Miss Kathryn Woods, spring term. Both teachers met with good success. The primary school taught by Miss Lila Mason, who main- tained her usual good success in school work.

The grammar was taught by Miss Henrietta Sharon. Very fair work was done. Special mention should be made of the map drawing and composition work which was exceptionally good.

Not all the success of a school depends entirely upon the teacher; she cannot do the thinking for the pupils, they must do it for themselves, and if the scholars in our grammar school realized this we would see a much great- er improvement in our school. The teacher needs the com- bined efforts of parents and scholars in order to make any school successful. It almost seems that parents do

29

not realize the amount of money expended for their scholars. They should be interested enough to have their children attend regularly every day of the term unless kept at home by sickness, and if possible visit the school at least once during the term; it encourages and helps both teacher and pupils.
