1. OBEDIAH MCINTIRE, by tradition an emigrant from Scotland, settled in the western part of Oxford, Mass., now Charlton. At the organization of the district of Charlton 1755, and previous to the annex- ation of the Gore, 14 of the 51 residents bore the name of MeIntire. He was a member of the first board of selectmen, 1755.


2. EPHRAIM MCINTIRE, son of Obediah 1, m. in Charlton, June 24, 1777, Mary Ward. He came to this town early in the century. The death of his wife is not recorded. He m. second, Mrs. Catherine Apple- bee, widow of Nathan Applebee (See). He d. in L. 1832.

He studied medicine in the University of Vt. and Bellevue Hospital Med. Coll., N. Y., grad. from the latter March 19, 1884. He took a post-grad. course in N. Y. during the winter of 1886 and 7, and a course in surgery in London, Eng., during the winter of 1884 and 5. He has practised in North Haverhill one and a half years ; Middletown, Ct., two and a half years ; Hudson, Wis., since 1888. He belongs to the White Mountain Medical Society, Inter-county Medical Society of Minn. and Wis., Wis. State Medical Society.

Conference Seminary, Tilton, and grad. from Wesleyan University, Middletown, Conn., in 1873. In 1875 he served as an active member of the Board of State Canvassers of the Y. M. C. A., and then took charge of the Methodist church in Franklin Falls, where he remained two years, 1875-6. He was ordained Deacon in 1877 by Bishop Peck, in Dover, and Elder in 1879 by Bishop Foster, in Plymouth. From Franklin he was located as follows : Whitefield, 1877-8; L., 1879-80-81 ; Haverhill, Mass. (Wesley Church), 1882-3-4 ; Laconia, 1885-6-7; Exeter, 1888-9-90 ; Supernumerary (Evanston, Ill.), since 1891. He is editor-in-chief of the "Christian Witness," Chicago, Ill. His published works are the books : "Inbred Sin," "Wesley Birthday Book," "Commentary on Luke," " Commentary on John." Superintendent of Schools, White- field. A. F. and A. M. I. O. O. F.
