The Rix family is of English origin. Robert Rix commanded a body of reserves at the battle of Flodden Field, Sept. 9, 1513. Sir John Rix lost his head on account of his adherence to Queen Anne Boleyn. The ancestral home of the family was Brancaster Castle, Kenninghall, Norfolk Co., Eng.

2. DOUGLAS ROBINS, son of Joseph 1, b. in Douglas, Mass., Dec. 11, 1749. m. May 4, 1772, Esther Kingsbury, b. July 2, 1745, dau. of Theodore and Mary (Town) Kingsbury of Oxford. In the record of the marriage he is called "of Dudley," and possibly his father Joseph 1 had removed to that town. At the time of his marriage, Douglas Robins settled in Chesterfield, where she d., Dec. 25, 1784 ; he m. second, Mrs. Keziah Marsh, b. in 1754, d. in L. Sept. 10, 1822. He res. in L. from ' 1798 until he d., April 26, 1824. Mary (Town) Kingsbury d. aged 100 years, 3 months. She was an older sister of the wife of Samuel Larned (See).

He was educated in the schools of L., Newbury, Vt., Seminary, and Wesleyan Univer- sity, Middletown, Conn., from which he grad. in 1868. He attended lectures in Union Theological Seminary, N. Y. City, one winter, and in 1863 was given an exhorter's license by Rev. S. E. Quimby, and a local preacher's license in Aug. 1864, from the L. Quarterly Confer- ence. He taught school the following four years, and in 1868 entered the N. H. Conference Seminary at Tilton as Prof. of Latin and Greek, supplying the pulpit on Sundays at Moultonboro' from April to June. In 1869 he was elected Prof. of Mathematics and Science, in the Daniel Drew Ladies' Coll., Carmell, N. Y., where he remained three years, preaching occasionally. He supplied the pulpit in Landaff from Sept., 1872, to April, 1873. He was ordained Deacon by Bishop Clark, April 11, 1869, and Elder in the Methodist church by Bishop Simpson, April 20, 1873. His appointments since have been : Hook- sett, 1873-4-5; Plymouth, 1876-7-8; Lebanon, 1879-80-1; Ports- mouth, 1882-3-4 ; Presiding Elder of Claremont District ; res. at L. 1885-6-7-8-9; First Church, Concord, 1890-1-2-3-4; St. John's Church, Dover, 1894-5-6; Presiding Elder, Dover District, 1897 and 1900; Trustee of N. H. Conference Seminary, and of N. H. Methodist Conference ; Vice-Prest. of N. H. Bible Society ; Delegate to Methodist Gen. Conference, N. Y.
