3. ARCHELAUS2 MOORE (John1) styled in the records successively Lieut., Capt. and Col., b. 6 April, 1722; d. after 1795 in Loudon; m. 19 Sept., 1745, Hannah Elkins of Hampton, b. 24 Feb., 1719. He bought the adjoining 40 acre home lots 56 and 57 in 1745 and 1748, north of his brother, William, the range road running between. He continued to make his home there till 1790, when he removed to Loudon, to the home of his son, John. He became prominent in the business of C. and surrounding towns, being occupied with official work nearly all his life, filling all the positions in the gift of the town. He was town clerk and justice of the peace in C. for many years. His original house, one of the most substantial in town, long known as the Green- ough place, is still standing near the southern four corners, lately occu- pied by Ralph Roundy. His wife, Hannah Elkins, removed with him to Loudon, but the date of her death is not known. They are buried in the large churchyard at Loudon Center, his stone being roughly marked "A M" in the Moore row. Children:
