GAGE

I am interested particularly in two people, one my great great grand- father Moses Gage who went to Norway, N. Y. and settled there in 1793 from "vicinity of Albany Co."

and of my father's grandfather, John Stannard who I believe must have lived in Amsterdam or some- where near there when my grand- father James Stannard was born in 1826.

I would like a record of the birth in Norway for Jan. 22, 1826 of James S. Stannard and of a Sarah H. Ash born in Norway Nov. 28, 1822 or of their marriage there in probably 1849 or 1850, because their oldest boy, my father's brother, David Stannard was born (suppos- edly in Norway, on Nov. 11, 1851.) . I have a great deal of informa- tion but can't find the link between : Charlotte Gage (Mose's daughter) and Roland Ash's marriage. (A Sarah Ash, their daughter and my father's father, James Stannard) and my grandfather's, James fath- er, John Stannard. All my people must have come from around that part of the country. I have my coat of arms from England but if I can find out where John Stannard was born, I can trace back from them to England.

GUINALL

Your paper has been coming to me for some time past. I have eag- erly read every issue in hope of finding proof regarding my great grandfather being killed in the bat- tle of Oriskany. The articles run- ning through the current numbers are most thrilling. I would appre- ciate some means of ascertaining where I may find all data regard- ing Albert (James?) Guinall (spell- ed also Quinall and -nell, -nall, nel.) Also his father by the same name.

Family, tradition is that he was

a lieutenant who fell at the battle of Oriskany. His wife was Matilda Collier. His daughter Cornelia was born 11 February 1778.

Where may we find lists of all the men and officers who were in this battle? Mary Lyman Reeve,

IF YOU HAVE CHARGE ACCOUNTS -

YOU NEED A CHECKING ACCOUNT

It's convenient to say "Charge it!" but unless you pay the monthly statements by check, you are enjoying only half the convenience of a charge account .... A checking account also assures you of proper credits, gives you an accurate record of payments. With a modest balance, these conveniences cost you nothing; even if less than average balance, the cost is trifling.

The Deed of Gift

The original deed of gift is stili preserved and is at the time of this writing, 1930, in the possession of the Nellis sisters, (Katherine and Lena), direct descendants, who' re- side at St. Johnsville, N. Y. The deed itseif is a splendid specimen of penmanship and is herewith repro- duced for the purpose of preserv- ing the quaint old phraseology, and to show how dependent we are on the old English courts for our iegai phrases.

Following is the deed of gift of the church premises by Hendrick W. Nellis, as referred to above:

Anderson Family in America Hendrik B.

(Continued from last week)

A history of the Anderson fam- ·ily in America, by Anderson, Jr., 51612 Broadway, Fargo, North Da- kota, assisted by Miss Nora Lee, 404 South Second street, Mt. Hor- eb, Wisconsin and Mrs. Seymour Gilbertson, Black Earth, Wisc. It was in the spring of the year 1853 that they ieft Modum, Nor- way, aboard the sail boat "The Soffina."

The party was made up on Hen- drik and Gunhild Anderson, three children, Karen, Anne and Andrew Hendrik. Also there was Mrs. An- derson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. Bjoigerud, a sister Maren and a brother Mickel and a brother of Mr. Anderson, Andrew.

The party arrived at Boston Mass. after many days of rough seas. They spent a short time there 'going on to New York city where they visited friends, also visited in Albany. In the fall of 1853 they traveled to Ohio and spent the winter there.

In the spring of 1854 they arrived in Wisconsin going to Mt. Horeb, New Glarus and Blanchardvilie area. Hendrik purchased half a sec- tion of land 16 miles from Mt. Horeb. He later enlarged his farm- ing interests many times over.

They joined the York church near Bianchardville of which he served as deacon. The York church was a Norwegian Lutheran church. Hendrik became a weli-to-do man and he and his wife spent a good life together.

Hendrik died May 6, 1893 at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 1 day,

His wife outlived him by nearly. 31 years. She died January 6, 1924' at the age of 97 years, 5 months and 15 days.

RICHARDSON

I am interested in the New York history of the following Richardson family:

From A. R. Markle's "When Terre Haute (Ind.) Was Young" I find the following: "When preparations of the New York Colony to move west into Indiana . . . Joseph Rich- ardson had left the boats at Pitts- burgh and on arrival of the party at Vincennes word awaited them of his serious illness in Washington (In- diana.)" "',

From Di 3 "The Good Old Times in McSlean Co., Ill." I find "Troup Richardson was born July 14, 1809, in Cayuga Co., N. Y., near Auburn. His father, Samuel L. Richardson, and his mother, whose malden name was Ann Wright, were both of English descent. The ancestors of his mother came from England with William Penn. In October, 1818, the Richardson family started to Fort Harrison, three miles from Terre Haute, Indiana. They had a winter's, journey of it and came to their 'destination in March 1819."

I want to know the other child- ren of Samuel Lane Richardson and Ann Wright beside Samuel Troupe : (1809-1890), Willlam Au- gustus (1804-1894) and Edward Franklin (his dates particularly wanted). Samuel Lane Richardson was the son of John Richardson and Christina Lane of Maryland and Penn.

The 1850 Census of Cayuga coun- ty lists a J. L. Richardson, age 66 ((b. c. 1784), a lawyer born .in Maryland. He may have been a brother of Samuel Lane Richardson. J. L.5s wife is given as Catherine, age 62, born in New Jersey. Per- haps descendants of this J. L. are still in Cayuga county.

Also I am interested in any data on Ann Wright and her parents. Gordon C. Jones, Lt. Co. 604 North Emerson street Arlington, Virginia
