In connection with the record of those who served in the war of 1$12 in the minute- book kept by the secretary, David Harris, Esq., are certain facts which are worth pre-erving :

July 4, 1857 .- There were present twenty-nive members. Joseph Wallace was chosen president, David Harris secretary, with other offi- cers. The day was celebrated on Forster's Island, the Declaration of Independence read by Jubn C. Kunkel, and an oration delivered by Samuel A. Holman, and after dinner, prepared by Curry Taylor, the usual patriotic toasts were offered. The music-the drum and ff -- was furnished by Samuel Hoiman, Sr., Jacob Dubbs, and David J. Kran-e.
February 22, 1858,-The drum belonging to Jacob Dubbs was presented to the association At this meeting the following address to the Con- gress of the United States and resolutions were reported by the commit- tee, consisting of Thomas L. Wilson, John Maglaughlin, John Heisely. Charles Carson, and Jacob Fisler, and unanimously adopted :
" The soldiers of the war of 1s12, bere assembled, respectfully request the Congress of the United States to pass the till now bea re it, with the amendment bereafter suggested, for the reef of those who periled their lives in the defense of their country during the second contest for its national independence. In making thi- request, they are uut seek- ing for the introduction of any new system of peusions into the practice of the government. That system was very ju-tiy, although tardily, in- corporated into the various acts rewarding those veneratel men whose sacrifices and services in the field brought the war of the Revolution to a triumphant conclusion. The value of the self-sacrificing services of these defenders, who have passed from the stage of action, is attested by the uuexampled progress and prosperity of our common country ; and there can be no man now living so insensible to every patriotic freling of national gratitude as to desire that one line of the recond bestowing some evidence of that gratitude should be blotted wat. We, in commen with the reninant of the band of defenders of the war of 1s12, stand now in the same position before the assembled representatives of a fre- people, whose civil and religions tights we added in preserving, as our fathers of the Revolution did in past years.
" Nearly forty-> x years have . apred since the nation called up in her sons to enroll themselves in her defense against the arrogant preten- sions and unjustifiable encroachments non la public honor made by a foreign power. GENERAL HISTORY.
all men look as the means of sustenance and comfort in their declining years, the solliets of 1:12, abandoning alt such selfish consideratinfs. and animated solely by that spirit of patriotism which it i- to by hoped muy hover le extinguished in the bosom of a single citizen of the Re- public, promptly and on all occasions obeyed the call thus make upon them. No miercetiary motive was mingled with this cheerful prtorni- anre of a duty which, it is freely admitted, is imposal upon every citiz of a free government when the existence of that government is threat- ened by foreign aggression or internal violence, A very large proportion of the men who rendered service in the war of 1612 have crossed thut narrow stream which divides Time from Etermity. Their surviving comrades, comparatively few in number, are tiow naturally statoling on the brink of thet stream. A number of them have already passe l the threescore years and ten allotted to man's pilgrimage upon earth : and the time that has elapsed since their services were performed proves that their junior comrades have nearly reached that point of mortal "AAIstence.
" It is respectfully submitted to Congress whether these sacrifices and they services, rendered in a period of extremo danzer to the ; erpetnity of our national institute ne, are not deserving of some substant it -vi- ilence of the arat tude of the country ? It was justly , xtended to the soldiers of the firvolution: why withhold it from those who formed the bulwark of that country's defense in the second war for independence? One nobly secured the liberties of the people, the other preserved them from foreign violation.
" Whilst the government has made large donations from the public treasury for improving the condition of the rising generation, and has how large projects before it for the same purpose, in the shape d gratis of public lands, the ol jection cannot now be raised that the state of the publi funds justifies that government in withholding att act of justice from those who, in year- gone by, made serions sacrifices in its defen-e. Any attempt at argument on this point would be an iny eachment of the intelligence of the national legislature.
" such being the views entertaine.l by the meeting, be it, therefore,
" Resulted, That Congress are respectfully urged to pass such a bill for the relief of the soldiers of 1>12 as will render equal justice to all who served in that war.
" Resolved, That in the bill before Congress, if it should ! come a law, many of our old companions in arms will receive but balt pay.
" Resolred, That we regard that portion of the bill as unjust and un- e-qual. A large number of our associates lett their homes and marched to the points of attack or defense for an indefinite period. subject to auch time as the government might require their services, but being discharged prior to the expiration of six months, th . bill places them upon haif pay.
" Resolved, That we trust that the pending bill will pas- with such an ememment as to make no distinction in the time of servire, but that all why marched to the defense of their country in that war will be ellowed full pay.
" Resolved, That the advanced age of these soldiers renders it in- perative that any measure for their relief should be passed without delay.
" Resolved, That the thanks of this meeting are tendered to those members of the past and present Congress who have exerted them- Brives to render justice to us and to our comrades in arms.
" Resolved, That a copy of these proceedings be forwarded to the Sen- ators and Representatives in Congress fruta this Commonwealth, with the request that they will lay them before their respe ctive 1 dies. "JOSEPH WALLACE, President.
" DAVID HARRIS, Secretary."
