Married Anna Bryzelius in Nazareth, June 21, 1779. He had two children who died in Emmaus. His wife died, Sept., 1786, in the West Indies, where he was a missionary. Married Anna Rosina Partsch, in Bethlehem, Feb. 24, 1787.

Married Anna P. Loesch. Of his eight children, two sons and a daughter survived, viz. : Jacob, Rosina (married Henry Beitel), and Joseph. His wife died in 1800. In 1809 married Mar. Cath. Hock, m.n. Wingas. During the latter part of his life he was nearly totally blind.


382. Elizabeth Towle, m.n. Emerson. xii, n. 9. Dec. 10. Born in London, Jan. 2, 1762. In 1777 removed to Bedford, where she was received into the congregation. Married Samuel Towle, Jan. 12, 1792. Of her six children, two daughters survived. She served, with her husband, as missionary in Antigua, W. Indies, and later in Gnadenhutten on the Mahony, Old Man's Creek, N.J., and Newport, R. I. They retired to Nazareth.

In Jan., 1792, married Elizabeth Emerson, and was ordained a Deacon of the Church. Served for a long time in Antigua, W. I., as missionary, and later as minister in Gnadenhütten on the Mahony, Old Man's Creek, N. J., and Newport, R. I. Retired to Nazareth in 1817. His wife died Dec., 1823. Of his six children, two daughters survived, one of whom married Thomas Wohlfahrt in Salem, N. C.

:389. Henry Frederick Siewers. xv, s. 7. Feb. 4. Missionary. Born in Lehre, near Brunswick, Germany, July 11, 1757. Confirmed in the Lutheran Church in 1770. Came to Herrnhut in 1787, and later was received into the congregation in Niesky. After following his trade, having served for a time in the Diaspora work, he was called to the West Indies, as missionary in 1796, and was married to Anna Eliz. Wagner, who died in 1798. His second wife was Maria Magd. Etticofer, who died two weeks after her marriage. In 1799 married the widow, Dorothea Mary Donath, m.n. Wrang, who had eight children, of whom four sons and a daughter survived. In 1822 he retired to Nazareth. He suffered from a severe fall, dropsy finally causing his death.

In 1787 came to America and lived in Christianspring. In 1791 married Rosina Frevel. He was a farmer in Gnadenthal, Old Nazareth and Nazareth. Of his six children, four survived.

399. Agnes Franke. ii, n. 13. Feb. 21. Unmarried sister. Born in Nazareth, Oct. 6, 1748. In 1752 moved to Bethlehem, where she united with the con- gregation in 1761. Removed to her parents in Lititz, and after their death, to Nazareth. She was lame from childhood and blind in one eye. When fifty years old became quite blind.

400. Carl Gotthold Schweisshaupt. xv, s. 9. May 8. Unmarried man. Born in Nazareth, Nov. 2, 1805. Confirmed in 1821.


401. Elizabeth Myrtetus, m.n. Ramstein. xii, n. 16. June 12. Born July I, 1731, near Basle, Switzerland. In her thirteenth year she came with her parents to America, living at first in the neighborhood of Bethlehem, then beyond the Blue Mountains. There she married Gideon Myrtetus, and later moved to Philadelphia, where she united with the Brethren's Church. Her husband died in 1799. Since 1808 lived in the Senseman family, her grand- daughter, Sister Senseman caring for her. Aged 95 years.

406. Caroline Emilia Kern. xiv, n. 9. Nov. 5. Infant daughter of Andrew Gottfried and Catharine Louisa (Levering) Kern.


407. Henry Benjamin Schmidt, M.D. xv, s. II. Nov. 24. Born in Brettstadt, Schleswig Holstein, Oct. 1, 1782. As a child he went to Christiansfeld with his widowed mother. In 1790 he entered the Paedagogium in Niesky. Thence he went to Barby to school, and later to a druggist in Gnadenfrei. When 19 years old he entered the University in Jena, and later went to Göttingen. He came to Nazareth, as a physician, in 1804. In 1805, July 21, he married Anna Maria Otto. Of his children, five survived him; viz .: Henry Emanuel, (Professor in New York,) Charlotte Louisa, Maria Caroline (married Brother Wm. L. Lennert), Emma Cornelia (married Brother Julius T. Bechler), and Edward Otto (a sugar refiner in Philadelphia and prominent member of the Church there). During several years he was in poor health, in consequence of attacks of paralysis. He was a skilful and highly esteemed physician and valued member of the congregation.

408. Joseph Demuth. xv, s. 12. Feb. 23. Born in Fredericktown, Dec. 1, 1748. In 1760 came to Bethlehem, then moved to Nazareth. Married Mary Magdalene Schnall, Aug. 15, 1787, who died Nov. 1815.


409. Caroline Jane Van Vleck. xiv, n. 10. April 22. Infant daughter of W. Henry and Ann Eliza (Kampmann) Van Vleck.


410. John Frederick Danke. xv, s. 13. May 21. Born in Nazareth, Sept. 5, 1780. Superintendent of the shoemaking shop in the Brethren's House. Later he changed his occupation, carrying on a bakery. Married Barbara Ehrenhard of Emmaus, Jan. 10, 1808. Of his seven children, six survived their father: Lisetta Louisa, Mary Ann Theodora, Elfrida Caroline (married Francis Miksch), Julianna Emilie (married Gustav A. Kern), Henrietta Cecilia (married Harvey Bates), and Alfred Henry (a prominent member of the Schoeneck congregation).

4II. James Albright. xv, s. 14. Sept. 13. Son of Henry and Anna Barbara (Hubley) Albright. Born in Shippensburg, Pa. Moved with his parents, to Gnadenhütten, Ohio, then to Lititz and to Nazareth. United with the Church in 1824. Having gone to Easton to enter business there, was taken ill, and being removed to his home in Nazareth, died there, aged 21 years.

413. Dorothea Gold. ii, n. 14. Nov. 2. Unmarried sister ; daughter of George and Anna Maria Gold. Born in Old Nazareth, Aug. 4, 1762.


414. Nathaniel Miksch. xv, s. 15. Nov. 7. Born in Bethlehem, Sept. 21, 1743. Lived in Fredericktown, Bethlehem (where he united with the congregation), and Christianspring. 1781 married Anna Maria Fritsch, and carried on the milling business at Friedensthal ; later occupied a farm between Friedensthal and Nazareth. His wife died July 7, 1822. Of his six children, four survived : John Frederick, Nathaniel, John Christian, and Anna Rebecca (married to Peter Stoudt [Stout]).
