777. Franz Joseph Nieth. xxvi, s. I. May I. Born in Germany, March 19, 1785. Confirmed in the Catholic Church. Married Maria Anna Spraul, March 14, 1814. Their married life continued more than fifty-three years. In 1832 came to the United States, and lived near Nazareth, He had ten children, a son and a daughter preceding him to eternity.
778. John Kram. xxvi, s. 2. May 10. Born in Saucon Township, July 17, 1791. Confirmed in the Reformed Church. Married Rebecca Roth, Nov. 8, 1818. In 1841 moved to Old Nazareth, to one of the congregation farms, where he continued for eleven years. In 1856 united with the Church. Of his ten children four died before their father. During the last portion of his life, he was a great sufferer, being paralyzed. Aged 74 years.
779. Ernestine Charlotte Lichtenthaler, m.n. Kitchelt. xxiii, n. I. July 19. Born Aug. 31, 1807, in Emmaus, St. John, W.I., where her parents were missionaries. She came to Bethlehem when she was a small child. When 17 years old, entered Linden Hall Seminary as teacher; later in Bethlehem Seminary, and then in the family of Mr. William Henry. Married Christian Lichtenthaler in Bethlehem, Aug. 1, 1837, and lived in Ephrata, Lancaster County, Pa., until they received a call as missionaries. Served in St. Kitts three years and in Antigua three years. Returned to the United States, and after some time spent in Nazareth and Bethlehem, served, with her husband, in Camden Valley, N.Y., and in Lebanon. Her husband then left the service of the Church and died in Chicago. His widow came to Nazareth, serving as teacher in the Parochial School six years. She had four children.

He was an officer of the Church, delegate to Synods, and Justice of the Peace forty-three years.

logical Seminary in 1862. Teacher in Nazareth Hall 1864. A year later went to Hope, Ind., where he assisted Brother Edwin T. Senseman, the pastor. Having been called as pastor to Moravia, Iowa, he was ordained by Bishop David Bigler, in Lancaster. He married Caroline Dizinger, of Phila- delphia, May 15, 1866. He remained at Moravia five years. He was ordained as Presbyter, by Bishop H. A. Shultz, Nov. 25, 1868. He was obliged by failing health to retire from service in July, 1871.
850. Augusta Fredericka H. Warman, m.n. Bird. xxv, n. I. August 13. Born in Gracefield, Ireland, where her father, Thomas Bird, was pastor of the Moravian Church, Oct. 23, 1817. He died at Malmsbury, England. She then went to Fulneck to school. She was teacher in Duckenfield, near Man- chester ; later in Ireland was governess in the family of the Rev. Samuel O'Sullivan. Married John F. Warman, Feb., 1842. In May, 1849, came to the United States, and lived fifteen years in New York. Then she served on the Indian Mission in Canada, where her husband was missionary; then at Olney, Ill., and finally at Nazareth. She had four [children, of whom two survived.

She then moved into the Nazareth Sisters' House. Mar- ried Christian Renatus Hoeber, Aug. 29, 1823. She had two sons and four daughters ; a son and a daughter preceded her into eternity.

853. Lucia Ottilia Martin, m.n. Kuehle. xxv, n. 3. Dec. 24. Born in Vienna, Austria, Nov. 7, 1804. Married Christian Frederick Martin, April, 1825, and moved to Neukirchen, in Vogtland. In 1833 came to the United States, and after living five years in New York, moved to Cherry Hill and later to Nazareth. She was a good musician, harpist and singer. She had seven children. Three daughters preceded her into eternity.
854. Sophia Henrietta Senseman, m.n. Reichel. xxv, n. 4. Dec. 28. Daugh- ter of the Rev. G. B. Reichel. Born in Salem, N. C., March 5, 1822. Her mother died when she was only seven years old, and about five years later, her father died. In 1834 her stepmother moved to Bethlehem, with seven children, and soon after Mrs. Senseman was adopted into the family of her uncle, Bro. C. F. Seidel. She was educated in the Young Ladies' Seminary at Bethlehem, where she later served as teacher. Married Comenius Sense- man, of Nazareth, in May, 1847. She had two children; a son died some years previous to his mother's death.

870. Ernst Leonard Bachschmidt. xxiv, s. 13. Aug. 19. Son of Paul and Ida Bachschmidt. Born in Nazareth, July 17, 1855. He was drowned in the Bushkill, while here on a visit from New York, where he was studying as architect.
871. Charles Christian Brown. xxiv, s. 14. Nov. I. Son of Daniel and Lucinda (Ebbeke) Brown. Born Nov. 17, 1854.
872. Andrew Gottfried Kern. xxviii, s. 4. Dec. 25. Son of John Michael and Anna Maria (Stott) Kern. Born in Nazareth, Sept. 7, 1793. Married Catharine Louisa Levering, Feb. 21, 1819, with whom he had eight children. His wife died Jan. 13, 1837. In Oct., 1837, married Sarah Lichtenthaler, with whom he had four children. He was a highly respected member of the Church, in which he held important offices for many years. During the latter part of his life, he was deeply interested in the history of the Church, and made many researches of importance. He was one of the first members of the Moravian Historical Society.

877. Joseph Straub. xxviii, s. 5. May 4. Born in Kappel, Würtemberg, Feb. 2, 1815. Came to the United States in 1854, and to Nazareth in 1860. He had two sons and a daughter.
878. Julia Grunewald, m.n. Weaver. xxv, n. 10. July 25. Daughter of Jacob and Margaret (Reimer) Weaver, born in Easton, Oct. 6, 1840. Confirmed in the Moravian Church. Married Edward T. Grunewald, Sept. 29, 1859. She had a daughter, who died.

880. Joseph Giersch. xxviii, s. 6. Aug. 12. Son of Christian and Elizabeth Giersch. Born in Nazareth, April 19, 1785. In 1809 married Judith Meinung, of Salem, N. C., and moved to Filetown. In 1824 to Philadel- phia. His wife died in 1844. After residing in Philadelphia forty-seven years, moved to Nazareth in Sept., 1871. He had nine children, of whom five preceded him into eternity.
881. John Henry Venter. xxviii, s. 7. Sept. 10. Son of John Andrew and Eleanora (Trautwein) Venter. Born in Mühlhausen, Germany, Jan. 2, 1795. In 1821 married Henrietta Theresa Roeder. In 1834 arrived in the United States. He lived in Nazareth, Philadelphia and Nazareth. He had twelve children, of whom five died in Germany.
882. Richard Francis Miksch. xxviii, s. 8. Oct. 14. Son of Nathaniel and Julianna Miksch. Born March 8, 1816. Married Cecilia Henrietta Clewell,

April 29, 1845, who died May 22, 1864. He had five children, three sons and two daughters. A son and a daughter preceded him into eternity. Married Caroline L. Kreider, of Lititz, April 29, 1869.

Born in York, Pa., where her father was pastor, Feb. 24, 1810. Married Benjamin Clewell, Sept. 16, 1830. She had six children, three of whom preceded her into eternity.

885. George Henry Bute, M.D. xxviii, s. 9. Feb. 13. Born at Brommershob, Germany, May 20, 1792. In order to avoid enlistment in the French army, he left and went to sea for several years on Dutch vessels. Being left at Genoa, he traveled on foot to Germany and set sail for America. He landed in Philadelphia in Aug., 1819. He was a teacher in Nazareth Hall from 1822 to 1823. In April, 1825, married Mary Bardill and moved to Phila- delphia. In 1828 called as missionary to Surinam, S.A. On account of im- paired health, he returned to this country. He became a Homeopathic physician, and was very successful, particularly during the prevalence of Asiatic cholera in Philadelphia, He moved to Nazareth. Two of his daughters died in 1851. His wife died in December, 1869.
