F. W. Schuerenberg (deceased), member State Council of Defense, Washington County, Texas.
Mr. F. W. Schuerenberg was born in Washington County, January 17, 1862, in the little town of Ber- lin, where his father Capt. Frederick William Schu- erenberg had settled at the close of the war be- tween the states some years after he had fled from Germany in 1848 to escape the dominion of the Prussian Autocrats. In 1866 he married Miss Ber- tha Reichardt, daughter of E. Reichardt, a pioneer of Washington County, Texas. His widow survives him together with two daughters, Mesdames J. J. Marek and C. A. DeWare. At the death of his father he and his brother R. A. Schurenberg took active charge of the business which rapidly grew until it became one of the most important business concerns in Texas. The dominating characteristic of Mr. Sehnrenberg's personality was his intense and enthusiastic patriotism. He devoted himself with zeal and energy to patriotic activities and war work of all kinds, contributing liberally to every call for funds. He died March 1, 1919.

Texas, near Brenham, August 21st, 1859, and spent his early boyhood days in Brenham, receiving his education in the public schools of that City. He died on the 20th day of June, 1919. He was a member of the Elks, K. of P., Gun & Rod Club and Chamber of Com- merce. Ile married Miss Louise Hoffman of Brenham, January 20th, 1886. His widow and daughter, Mrs. T. A. Adams survive him.

THE SERVICE HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION OF TEXAS
The Service Hospital Association is in successful oper- ation in this City; and while it may appear to be some- thing new in Health and Accident Insurance, many sim- ilar Organizations have been founded in other States in the Union, and without exception, are popular and prosperous.
Members pay an annual fee of $12.00 in advance or an entrance fee of $3.00 and $1.00 per month. Thus a member saves $3.00 by paying in advance, for the year. Wives of members are admitted on payment of seventy- five cents per month.
The Association, for this modest sum, provides for a member, in case of illness or accident, free medical and surgical attention, including medicines, surgical dress- ings, nurses, hospital, with private room and board while in the hospital, ambulance service and electrical treat- ments, in fact-covering all expense incurred during an illness or accident.
We are equipped with a complete X-ray plant.
Men, women and children, between the ages of ten and fifty-five years, are eligible to membership.
