Mexican border; upon declaration of war with Ger- many he entered the first Aviation Training Camp at San Antonio (then called Camp Funston) ; transferred to Ground School, Austin; commissioned Lient .; transferred to San Diego, and was ordered to foreign service; on March 3, 1918, sailed for France as one of the First Aero Squadron; first man in his squadron to bring down a German plane; did splendid work in St. Mihiel drive, where he mnet death; was awarded the Croix de Guerre by Marshal Petain, commar ler in-chief of the French armies, Nov. 29, 1918; killed in action Sept. 17, 1918.

War Work: Enlisted April 26, 1918, in Co. G, 359th Inf., 90th Div., Camp Travis ; sailed for France June, 1918; engaged in the drive at St. Mihiel and the Argonne, receiving wounds on the 12th of September, 1918, which resulted in his death, Sept. 13, 1918.
