Selectmen's Report

We present the following report which covers the labors of the board for the past year. There has been very little work done on culverts and bridges during the last year. There will have to be in the near future several bridges built over, and in our opinion such bridges should be made of concrete, thus avoiding an annual expense of plank. We have paid for one- half of a road machine during the year and have painted tool house that is large enough to store all of the town's machinery. We have one bill outstanding in settlement for stone crusher, but we anticipate no trouble in adjusting the same. We further advise the town to begin to reduce our town debt. There is no good reason why a town as well to do as Pittsford should be paying around three thousand dollars a year for interest on its present indebtedness. All of which we submit to your care for consideration.

During the year the library subscribed to 21 monthly and 6 weekly periodicals, 1 daily newspaper and since the European war was declared, has taken the New York Daily Times, and Weekly Supplement for the war photographs. Four weekly periodicals have also been given by W. T. Denison, S. K. Bur- bank, J. B. Candon, and Dr. G. N. Boardman.

The teachers and pupils of the public schools are making excellent use of the library. At the close of the library year a count of boks in the schools showed 171 in use. This in- cluded 8 boxes of books in the rural school rooms.

Mrs. C. E. Jones has been doing the work of assistant librarian for the past year.

Last summer an apppropriation of $75 was made for needed card catalogue work, which was done by Miss Eunice Wead of Washington, D. C., thus greatly increasing the working facilities of the library.

Could all patrons of the library fully realize how much time and money is yearly expended for the mending, rebinding, and replacement of books which have been needlessly soiled and misused while in circulation, we are sure that a large share of this expenditure would be available for other uses more accept- able to the public and of greater credit to the library; but how this can be accomplished is one of our present problems.

A printed list of accessions for the past year is ready for free distribution.

Respectfully submitted,

MARY T. RANDALL,

February 2, 1915.

Librarian.
