With the raising of the pay of the men working on the road from $1.89 to $2.25 per day and teams from $4.00 to $5.00 a day and on some of the state work to $5.50 a day, it has been impossible to keep the roads in good repair and do the per- manent work required without this heavy overdraft. We also drew back from the state and selectmen over $800 more in . 1916 than in 1917. E. A. RANDALL, Road Commissioner.

The reading room tables were supplied with 29 magazines and two daily newspapers at a cost of $75.50 and four other magazines were contributed by townspeople.
